Photoshop drawing crane with pine 花札の鶴に松

This is my second photoshop 5 drawing or illustration inspired by Japanese traditional playing card called Hanafuda.

You could see my previous post if you are interested in Hanafuda.

This time, I chose crane with pine.

This is the original image of the card.

The time was 1999. After I did the first drawing, which you could refer my previous post, I was not so into dooms day mood any more. Thank goodness, I must have squeezed all that apocalypse idea out of my system!

So what I still had was robotic element, which is always there if you stay in urban Japan, techno dependent and tradition mixture.
The main of this drawing is the robot crane. Then where is the pine the plant?

Take a look at its feathers. They are pine cones!! There it is, not the pine tree but its offspring.

I made a drawing with pen or pencil on paper first. Too bad I couldn't fine any scanned image of it, but I did found my other in-progress work.

This is scanned draft with some air spray together. You could see the pine leaves(not sure how you call them) in the frame.

This is the sketch for background using the air spray. I wanted other cranes sticking out their neck from the holes of the floors like a cobra.

Then, separately, I make the frame with marble tone and drop shadow.

All the layers together would look like this.

But... wait a minute, who is going to do all the detail work to draw those background cranes?
...me... yes, and maybe too much work...
So lazy bum, me, decided to change the background.

I went out to take photograph of metals material. This is a section of motorbike.
I changed the transparency to 50%.

Then I added black edge to match the paper cut-ish style as the first one.
I also added colors on the bird, background and floor with texture.
