Kandovan Volcanic Village and it's cave dwelling people

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

Something like this exist in today's age and time is unbelievable...

This is a small village in Iran - Kandovan Village, where people still live in Cave houses. The Cave dwelling people have a unique lifestyle. First of all people still living in caves is one amusement for me. Their houses are so different and unique. Its not that they live with sophisticated amenities but they have everything they need for their living. Most of the time in the year the climate is very cold out here, and they do not have any electronic heating systems. They have created some man made systems though a bit inconvenient for someone at the outside but they seem to be perfectly blended with the system. It's marvelous to see their lifestyles and self sufficiency.
I wonder if these people have even been out of this space and explored beyond their space. You feel like aliens in their space, they speak only Persian and hence the other challenge is communication with them.

Let me share some of the pictures of the place.

This one is taken as we approach the village. Do you see a small door in that cave. Thats a house. Unbelievable right?

The village is on the hills. This is how it looks like from below. Yes people actually live here

We visited a few houses from inside, we see that most of them are houses plus shops. There are a lot of tourist in this place so sale of the traditional items is good.

This lady is scrapping out honey.

Can you guess what's the red table out there?

This is their heating place. beneath the cloth inside the table there's burning coal which spreads the heat around and keeps the place warm, They were kind enough to allow us to sit there and take the experience.

And this keeps going up further

It was a wonderful experience being in this place. Life was at complete opposite extreme out here. Things that we can't believe still exist you can find them here.

The only problem you will have here is language as absolutely no one speaks english. They will show you the prices of the product on a calculator if u wish to buy something.

For me it was a learning experience to be in this place. I feel blessed that I got to explore the length and breadth of this Country, going back to the roots and getting a chance to explore some marvelous places.

Cappadocia is also a underground Cave city, but it's highly commercialized. The beauty of this place is that except for a few souvenir shops rest all are houses where people live their normal lives.

With Love and Angels Blessings 💖💖👼🏻👼🏻🧚‍♀

Thank you for sharing this amazing experience. Just goes to show we really no nothing about the rest of the world and how each lives their life. A terrific post.

Thanks for sharing your adventure. It amazed me how they carry out commerce in such a unique business structure :D It reminds me of houses underground in Australia or Native people in Cliff dwellings. Did the bees live in the caves too or was this located outside?

you leave me surprised, it's great to learn so much, I'm sure that more than one wants to know that place, including me

That is really special that you were able to experience that and to catch a glimpse of life in a cave. It reminds me of cave dwellers in Petra. Thank you for sharing @nainaztengra. It makes me wonder what they would think of our lives with all the fancy electronic gadgets.

That is seriously cool! Thanks so much for sharing and great photos!

An advantage of living within the ground - as in a cave is that the surrounding soil provides the conditions for a fairly constant temperature. Would save of heating - or cooling as is the case in Coober Pedy, South Australia - but it would cost to light.
The work gone into creating the footpaths in the pictured village is amazing. Thank you for taking us on this journey to such a unique place.

really like old ways to live....Amazing

Kandovan has a little distance from my city. I've been there many times
