Steemit Engagement Challenge - S7W2 | Book Review:The Secrets of Creative Writing

It is an interesting contest theme. I am interested in participating and want to review a book that has made a lot of changes in my writing style on Steemit. The book has given rise to so many creative ideas that I never run out of ideas to write about.

Well, on this occasion, I would like to review a book by the great Indonesian writer, Raditya Dika, entitled Secrets of Creative Writing.

Short Profile of the Author:

Raditya Dika is a writer, comedian, director, and actor in Indonesia. He was born in Jakarta on December 28, 1984, with the name Dika Angkasaputra Moerwani.

He is a writer who received an award titled The Online Inspiring Award in 2009 from Indosat. The first work that bears his name is a book entitled Kambing Jantan: A Diary of a Stupid Student (2005).

{ First part: Preparation before writing }

Raditya Dika in this book, explains the secrets of creative and innovative writing. This 182-page book has three main points of discussion; preparation before writing, basic creative writing, and action after writing.

At the beginning of the discussion, the author explained in detail about the procedures for exploring writing ideas. According to him, the idea did not come by itself, We have to dig it out. Then where should we explore the idea? The idea is within us.

The author terms the idea with a treasure. The treasure that is stored very deep within us that is not realized. He said, if you run out of ideas to write, try to ask yourself, "what am I worried about?"

After finding an idea, the writer's next task is to turn the idea into a premise. The premise is the essence of a story contained in one sentence. The premise emerges from the main character, goals, and obstacles that occur.

The author also explains how to create a character. It should be noted that the better the preparation in making a post, the easier it will be to write an article. In short, make a mind map before writing.

{ Second Part: The basics of creative writing }

In the second part of the book, the author explains the basics of creative writing. In the previous discussion, the author explained in detail about preparation before writing. In this section, the author invites us to do good and correct writing techniques.

According to him, the first line is a very bewitching sentence. He can make the reader continue reading until the end of the discussion. The trick is to read a lot of other people's writings on the same theme, reviewing their books to the art of adding humor to them.

{ Third Part: After writing }

At the end of the book, the author invites us to re-read what we have written, then edit on several points that need to be changed. After the editing stage is complete, the next step is to penetrate publishers so that our writing can be displayed on bookstore shelves. After the book was published, the last step was taken, namely selling and promoting the book.
