Marshes Are SO Important
Buttertubs Marsh is a local conservation and habitat preservation area. Also a recreation spot for runners and walkers. Bird enthusiasts spend a lot of time there. Dogs and bicycles are strictly prohibited.
The land is owned by the City of Nanaimo and managed in partnership with Ducks Unlimited. I went there today with my youngest and we walked along the burmed pathway that intersects the marsh. It was beutiful and there was birdsong all about.
Such a nourishing experience teaching a little one, (who called the cap of an acorn, a little hat,) about all of the different plants. Like the Tansy and the Oak. The acorn was not for eating by us but was made by the oak...
Fascinating watching them take it all in and explore ALL of the sensations. We tasted Blackberry flower, Hawthorn flower and just-forming Oregon Grape fruit.
Today was just a short excursion with the little one while mama caught up on some sleep but its a valuable spot to take the whole fam jam (minus le dogue) for a walk around the whole loop. Discover how many different birds we can see/hear.
Such an important place for us to preserve.
