Day 789: 5 Minute Freewrite: Wednesday - Prompt: vegetables
This is my post for #freewrite Wednesday prompt vegetables hosted by @mariannewest
I did not plant many vegetables this year but I did plant broccoli, Brussel sprouts, and spaghetti squash. My husband planted sweet potatoes and Seminole squash, I do not know why he did not plant collards or swiss chard, he usually plants them. Yes, we have separate gardens. I do not like him messing around in my garden and I do not mess with his, this keeps a happy marriage.
I was happy when I saw this prompt because I picked my first heads of broccoli today, we had it for supper and it was so good. I like eating what I grow, I know there has never been any poison sprayed on them.
The spaghetti squash is growing.
That is the only one on the vine that has made it. Something went wrong with its brother and he fell off. Poor baby.
This tomato came up in the pot with broccoli in it, it is most likely a cherry tomato they come up all over our yard, but I will let it grow.
Brussel Sprouts grow at the base of the leaves, where the leaves meet the trunk, they have not started yet but the weather has started getting cooler so I hope it will give them a good kick and make them grow.
Our soil has nematodes in it so we have to grow everything in pots. If you ever pull a plant up and see bumps all over the roots, that is nematodes. I think they are a parasite.

I’m chuckling at your remark that separate gardens make a happy marriage. I remember a friend telling me the night shift was the secret of her marriage success. Her husband worked the night shift. 😂
@redheadpei I like having my husband home at night, but I do not like it if he messes with my flowers or my garden. We have different ideas, he is the go by the book type and if I want to plant something I plant it. If I want to plant a winter plant in the summer I put it where it gets some sun but mostly shade and it grows. He would never plant a winter veggie in the summer.
I am pure vegetarian so love it.
