Soothing elderberry cough syrup
My beautiful wife, Jamie, made for our family a delicious and effective elderberry cough syrup. It is very easy to make and after trying it out, it is a good balance of tasty and healthy.

2 cups of water
1/2 cup of dried elderberries or 1 cup of fresh elderberries
1 cinnamon stick
5 whole cloves (we will probably double that amount on the next batch)
1 cup of raw honey
We put the first 4 ingredients together and slowly cooked it down to about half the volume. Then we strained out the berries, cinnamon and cloves, and then, while still warm, added the 1 cup of honey. This will stay good in the refrigerator for about 2 weeks. I would imagine if it starts to go bad, or you find you simply won't use it all in time you could freeze it, or perhaps add a good yeast to it and make an elderberry mead.

I have been hearing of more people making cough syrup, but have yet to try it. I will have to put aside a recipe like this to possibly try this winter.
Am seeing a lot of folks using this remedy this winter. How much is a 'dose'? Teaspoon, tablespoon, shot glass..? It looked pretty concentrated once it was all done.
Oh, and just fyi - there was a mention of ginger in the video, but it's not in the recipe.

A few years ago I would have raised my eyebrow to this but recently I was made some and I can say that it does a good job on coughs and for this time of year I even take it when I am not sick to give my immune system a bit of a boost!
