The Smoke - Poetry
Lives of people less lived.
The mere nonsense of it all
Clasps it with a choking grip.
All that you know or need to know
None the wiser or smarter.
Far away from it all
In the land of hills and mountain
Was a dame who was much wanted for
Waiting as the hours passed by.
It will all surely end at the end
but will surely also light up a fire before that.
I know this is about more than smoking tobacco. But, that first stanza well encapsulates the illogic of smoking.
