Today, we celebrated 47 years of existence as an independent country. The day is a event for rejoicing for the country but among mass people the day is observed with sombre thoughts and mixed fellings for the extent of killings, rape and plunder, that is compareable the occuping pakistani military's activities during 1971. But their brutal activities created a spark among bangalies to take up the arms to avert and root out the ememy from our land.

This day we salute those heroic freedom fighters, and the many mothers and sisters who remain unknown, whose blood and sacrifice have purified this land and freed the country of the occupiers. We show our profound respects to Bangabandhu for his singular leadership that pictured the way for our ultimate victory and the four leaders for their exemplary role during the nine month liberation war, conduct aptly the terminal phase of our liberation struggle.

The last 47 years have seen the country great improvement, the latest acknowledgement of which our eligiblity for graduation to the rank of developing countries. While that speaks our economic improvement, we have quite a way to go to ensure equal dustribution of wealth and social justice. In this context, we define the utility of good governnance to fulfil the dreams of our freedom fighters which remain largely unfulfilled.

This is also the time to call upon the government of pakistan to say sorry and repent for the activities in 1971.The people of Bangladesh bear no envy towards the people of pakistan and would like to enjoy a normal mutual relationship, particularly as a member of SAARC. But for their army's brutality in 1971, an apology remains a precondition..
