How to Apply Makeup for a Natural Look

in #dtube6 years ago

To achieve a natural look, not much makeup is needed. In fact, makeup will enable you to enhance your skin, eyes and lips without conveying the impression that you have applied too much of it!

The Tools Required:

  • Wash/Cleanse your Face
  • A Good Moisturiser or Tinted Moisturiser
  • A BB/CC Cream or Powder Foundation
  • Concealer
  • Face Powder
  • Bronzer (Skip Bronzer if you are pale)
  • Blush
  • Brow Gel (Optional)
  • Skin-Toned Colour Eyeshadow
  • Eyeliner (Pencil, Gel or Liquid)
  • Mascara
  • Sheer Lipstick

Step 1: Wash/Cleanse your Face

Start off with a freshly washed or cleansed face as this will wake you up. You will feel fresh, clean and ready to move on to the next step.

Step 2: Apply a Good Moisturiser

Applying a good moisturiser that is suitable for your skin type will give you the best results as to what your skin needs so that makeup will layer on top beautifully. It will also help you to get a bit of a slip when applying the base.

Optional: You can also use a tinted moisturiser which is like a two-in-one moisturiser. If you select the tinted moisturiser, then the next step can be skipped.

Step 3: Apply a BB/CC Cream or Powder Foundation

Depending on your skin type, you may want to use a BB/CC cream (Dry to Normal to Combination) or powder foundation (Oily).

Make sure that the BB/CC cream or powder foundation blends seamlessly into your skin tone to achieve a natural finish.

You can apply your BB/CC cream with your fingers or a brush through circular motions.

Use a kabuki brush to apply your powder foundation and perform circular motions for best result.

Note: If you decide to choose the powder foundation, use the liquid or cream concealer first and then apply the powder foundation on top for best results. For application, please refer to step 4.

Step 4: Apply Concealer

Apply concealer only on the areas where it is really needed in order to provide the best natural finish.

Use a cream or liquid concealer which you can then apply under your eyes and on blemishes if needed to even out your skin tone in order to obtain a clean canvas.

Some people need only one concealer and others might need two. It depends on how even your skin tone looks.

To achieve an awake look under the eyes, choose one or two shades lighter than your skin tone. If you want to use a concealer on your blemishes, it must be similar to the colour of your skin tone in order to melt into your skin tone.

You can apply and blend the concealer with your finger, sponge or brush, whatever suits you best.

Step 5: Apply Face Powder

Setting the concealed areas, such as below the eyes, will prevent the concealer from creasing. Choose a small face or eyeshadow brush to set the under-eye area.

Depending on your skin type and base selection, you might also want to secure the rest of your makeup using a big powder brush and dust it to the areas that can get oily or to simply secure your makeup before moving on to the next powder products.

Step 6: Applying Bronzer

To warm up the face, use a bit of bronzer. Only a small amount of bronze can be used. Choose a medium size face brush for application.

Start by applying a bit onto your forehead, then moving on to the cheeks and ending with your jawline/chin and neck in order for the neck to match with your face. Keep it light!

Tip: If you are too pale, skip bronzer and stick to blush.

Step 7: Apply Blush

Blush can be obtained in so many shades, textures and finishes. Pick the one you like the most but make sure to choose a colour that is natural with regards to how your cheeks would normally flush up.

Choosing a medium sized face brush will provide you with the best application. If you choose a cream blush, then use your fingers for application. Start from the apples of your cheeks and blend it to the hairline and down.

Step 8: Make your Eyes Stand Out!

Start by applying a skin-toned eyeshadow all over the lid from the lash line to the brow bone, using either a flat or blending eyeshadow brush. This will enable you to get rid of any discolorations and make the eye look fresher.

Then use an eyeliner pencil, gel or liquid (optional: angled brush) and line your upper lash line and upper waterline to define the eyes. Use little strokes to create the liner from the outer to inner corner. Optional: You may add a wing to the liner.

Finish the eyes with a bit of mascara to get the most out of the look!

If you wish, you can use a clear or tinted brow gel to keep the brows in shape.

Step 9: Apply Lipstick

To end the natural makeup look, choose a sheer lipstick colour (this may be a gloss, lip oil, lip balm or sheer lipstick) that will enhance your lips, but with which you can still see your natural lip colour. Either apply the lipstick directly from the bullet/applicator or with a lip brush for best results.
