GUM stands for Glavnyj Universalnyj Magazin which means Main Universal Store, or the equivalent of a major shopping centre. The Mall has been built since the end of the 18th century in the era of the reign of Queen Catherine II. He pointed to a neoclassical architect of origin Italy named Giacomo Quarengi, to design the building the largest shopping centre in the middle of the city.
