Rice Planting Traditionally
My village is now entering the rice planting period. Farmers here for the stages of planting still rely on human labor because it has not developed rice-growing machinery. Except for rice field time and harvest time, it generally has been using tractor and hervester combine. But there is still a small part with the traditional system.
Planting this rice is called in my local language in Aceh Malaka, Sumatra with seumula and this is done in two ways. The first way to employ workers (peu-wages) and the two to help each other between farmers (meuripee). * meuripee * This is a form of mutual cooperation in the chest of the village community.
Back to seumula. Farmers here start to descend into the rice fields in the morning at around 07.30 Western Indonesia time (GMT) and break at 12:30 noon. Back down again at 14:00 and break at 17:00 afternoon.
In the morning, some farmers are removing rice seedlings from the nursery. When finished then proceed to the stage of placing the ground using a rope. The plots were divided into 100 centimeters.
When planting later, in a plot measuring 100 centimeters planted rice seeds as many as four rows. In the hole planted between 3-4 seeds of rice, while the seedlings age between 14-16 days after seedling.
