After releasing Android 12, Google is expected to launch its next mobile operating system, allegedly named Android 12.1.

The Android 12.1 operating system is reportedly a minor update from Android 12 which is said to be debuting on the Pixel 6 series. The Pixel 6 itself is scheduled to launch in October 2021.

Later, leaked a series of photos that were allegedly screenshots of the Android 12.1 interface. If true, then this is the first appearance of the appearance of the operating system.

From the leaked images circulating, it appears that the (UI) Android 12.1 is designed to be simpler with a solid color combination. This leaked photo comes from technology site XDA Developers.

In the screenshot shared, the Android 12.1 interface can be seen installed on the foldable device, hinting at the Google Pixel Fold foldable phone.

The interface shown adheres to a dual-pane configuration, where the menu layout is divided into two parts.

For example, in the notification pull-down menu. Users will see a right-left panel that displays the notification area on the right side and the phone's system settings on the left side.

This dual panel configuration is called a 50/50 design style, which means a full screen is split into two parts.

The question is, the aspect ratio of this interface is not suitable for a tablet, it looks too elongated. It would be more fitting if displayed on the Pixel phone screen side by side (two screens right and left).

At first glance, this dual panel display is similar to the Honeycomb Android operating system (version 3.0) which is specifically intended for tablet devices.

The location of the status bar that displays the hour and day description has also been changed. The position of the clock is now in the upper left corner, not in the upper right as it has always been.

When opening the Settings menu, users will also see two screens that are divided into two, after clicking on one of the desired options.

For example, when selecting the Display menu, the screen will automatically split into two as shown below.

At the bottom, the Android OS 12.1 also displays several icons of running applications. Even so, it is not shown how the condition of the screen when opening a number of applications simultaneously.

Of course, this series of leaked images showing the Android 12.1 interface is still temporary. It could be, the final appearance will be different.

Android with dots

For information, naming Android using "dots" has been done by Google, which released the Android Oreo 8.1 update in 2017. This update is a minor update from Android Oreo 8.0.

Since then, Google has never again rolled out a minor update with version naming using dots.

To be sure, every new version of Android has an API number. Android 12 itself has API level 31, but in the public repository Android 13 is known to use API level 33.

Google seems to pause the API numbering between Android 12 and 13 for the new OS variant, which has been unofficially called Android 12.1.
