Thinking About Limiting Beliefs
The first step to change any habit is to challenge your limiting beliefs as much as possible. Challenge: Challenge your limiting beliefs by asking yourself the question, "Who's going to challenge my limiting beliefs?" Then reflect on your response to that question, to determine the impact your limited beliefs have on your daily life. Reframe: Replace your negative thoughts with positive thoughts.
When you challenge your limiting beliefs, you allow yourself a new opportunity to test your ideas and to explore the possibilities that lie beyond them. By opening your mind to new possibilities, you will let go of old notions that don't serve you well. You will also learn how to move beyond a particular idea or belief to engage with others in a different way. When you allow yourself this kind of freedom of movement, you will find that challenges become easier to deal with.
One way that you can get better at dealing with challenges is to make sure you're always using the power of your own self-talk. Self-talk can sometimes be just as corrosive to the effectiveness of your efforts as are your negative thoughts. When you use self-talk to combat limiting beliefs, you're empowering yourself to take charge of your own growth. You'll also find that as you strengthen your self-talk and your negative thoughts, you'll have more energy to take on new tasks and to face challenging situations.
Limiting beliefs are mostly created by our mental conditioning. They're part of the way we process information and create our reality. Our limiting beliefs are also very specific. For example, we might hold the belief that success means getting a big check from someone else. When we consistently think about money in these terms, we block out other possibilities and opportunities that might help us. It's important to realize that our world isn't filled with rich men waiting for us to hand them money - if it did, there wouldn't be so many people who feel the need to continually attract them!
Instead, it's important to cultivate a mindset that's centred on self-control. The best way to do this is to challenge your limiting beliefs on a regular basis. This includes deliberately thinking about the opposite of what you've previously believed and writing it down. Try to look at any statements you may have previously made without really thinking about them. What you'll find is that when you take time to do this, your subconscious mind starts to rewire itself to overcome your previous limiting belief.
Of course, it's not always easy to consciously challenge all your existing limiting beliefs around us. In many cases, we're simply too emotionally involved in them to bring ourselves to the surface and address our inner feelings. If you want to truly change the way you think about yourself, however, you'll have to take time to do this on a regular basis - perhaps once a week or once a fortnight.
Overcoming your own fears and insecurities will take practice. But it's important to make sure that you're also challenging your own negative thoughts. This could take some time and effort, but it will be worth it in the long run. When you start to get better at challenging your own thinking, you'll find that other areas of your life start to get better as well. You'll learn how to get better at appreciating life around you, for example.
You should also consider carefully how you react when you hear someone say something you strongly oppose. For many people, these reactions are mild, but for others they can be quite strong. To get over your own insecurities and concerns, you have to choose to respond to challenges with an open mind. If you are constantly worried that other people will see something you don't like, you won't be able to get better at appreciating life. So you have to learn to be gentle with yourself.
