How to Deal With Intense Emotions That Aren't All Bad?
Intense emotions are not always a problem. It may be that you feel as though your world has come to a grinding halt and nothing is going to get better for you. Perhaps the stress of work and family has you feeling as if there is no hope. The fact is that, while this may feel like the case, it really does not have to be. You can work through these difficult times with a solid plan. The following are five ways you can deal with your intense emotions:
Control your temper - While everyone has had heated arguments in their past, having them become increasingly heated does not necessarily mean that you should throw a temper tantrum. Anger and frustration often take a toll on relationships, so if you feel like you are losing control, try and take a slow and relaxed approach. You may even wish to consider taking some professional advice. You are never too old or too young to learn how to calm down and control your emotions. If you keep yourself in check, you will be much better able to handle these feelings and hopefully avoid a potential breakdown in the relationship.
Remain positive - As upsetting as it may be to have strong negative feelings at any given time, it does not have to make you feel as though you are a bad person. You may find that you can deal with your feelings and get on with your life. Try and make a positive impression wherever you go.
Focus on the task at hand - You may feel as though you are getting away with something or that there is no point in working or focusing on anything. In order to help yourself through these feelings, it is important to try and reframe the situation. For instance, if you know that you are about to get angry, you should ask yourself if you have done anything to aggravate the situation. From there you should work out what you can do to make things better.
Take a breather - The first rule about emotions is that you need to take a breather. This will allow you to calm down and take a step back from the situation that has caused the emotions to build up in the first place. If you have let your emotions take control, you may end up doing more harm than good to yourself and those around you. It is important to try and ensure that you take a break from whatever it is that you are experiencing to ensure that you can better think about the situation at hand.
Consider taking some time off - If you know that you are going to have a difficult time handling your emotions at this point, you may need to take some time away from the situation. If you have been carrying out negative emotions, it may be hard to think rationally and even the simplest of tasks may seem daunting. Taking a few days off from work is often a good idea. Take a few days to rest your body and allow your mind to recover from the recent conflict. You will likely feel refreshed and ready to tackle anything that comes your way when you allow yourself to do so.
Get support - If you are someone who is dealing with extreme emotions, you may want to consider seeking professional support. There are plenty of emotional support groups out there, and they can offer you some much-needed structure. A support group can give you the strength to keep your emotions in check while you are working through your issues. They can help you to see that all of your emotions are not as bad as you think they are, and they can also help to encourage you to stay on track with your goals. If you have intense emotions that aren't all bad, seek out the support of others who may be able to help you get back on track again.
Emotions are never fun, but when they are not controlling your life, they can be tempered and used in a positive way. When you are trying to figure out how to deal with your own intense emotions that aren't all bad, you will find that there is a whole host of information out there to help you. The key is to make sure that you don't spend too much time dwelling on the things that you're sad or angry about, because this only creates more feelings. Stay on track with your goals, and you'll feel much better.
