Rest Days

Enjoying a nice bit of rest

with the dogs yesterday and today.

I can tell that I'm pretty brutally out of shape still -- so I don't want to push it too much and injure myself or get sore to a point where I need a longer rest. That said, I'm going to take this moment to get some thoughts out of my head...

Walks on the beach go a long way in letting me restore myself mentally. Sometimes, it feels like I could walk forever and just listen to the waves crashing into the shore, and then pour back into the ocean through the rocky beach.

I'm a huge fan of having nothing important to do, which is tough, considering I have an "important-ish" job. Needing to be constantly dialed in and able to find solutions to last minute problems wears one down a bit, at least it does to me. I'm really enjoying the opportunity to not have to think or do anything important for a few days.

With that in mind -- look at how easy it is to convince oneself that "work" is the "important stuff", and not the opportunity to spend time with family, or enjoy nature. We've woven this intricate story about how participating (and thriving) in the race of economic productivity is single most important thing we can do. Almost to a point where it's "do-or-die" -- not quite though, because it's probably a bit more accurate to suggest that it's "do-or-struggle-to-find-shelter-and-food".

Despite the fact that, personally, I'm doing pretty well in this endless game of pursuing economic productivity -- I largely don't want to play anymore.

I think the vast majority of "jobs" are ruining the planet, or at the very least, they're ruining our lives. Important work still needs to be done (clean water, sanitary systems, safe construction -- coughsaystheengineercough -- but also doctors, teachers, food production and other obvious "roles"). The interesting thing about all these " critical roles" though, is that generally, people are passionate about doing this kind of stuff. Contrast that with the fact that almost nobody (at least nobody rational) is passionate about their shitty KFC or shoe store job -- you can start to see hoe a voluntary community could be formed.

I would also suggest that those that aren't passionate about these critical roles could still play beneficial roles. Artists, musicians, athletes, entertainers, et al. "Creators", may sum it up nicely. At the very least, things would be better off if people just spent their days eating healthy food, not getting sick and fat, and just not " consuming".

It's interesting how when I think of all this -- there's no real place, in my eyes, for the "consumers" that we have today. Sure, there is a place for creators, so still, consumption will naturally follow -- but on an exponentially smaller scale...

...anyways... I forget what I was talking about! Enjoy the last days of 2018! Rest up, find your passion, and do what you can to consume conciously, ethically, and sustainably!

Nice dude!
I'm starting a new exercise routine, and had to totally hold back last night so I don't get myself into trouble, and I'm glad I did because I'm already pretty crazy sore.

I'm under no illusions that my job is for the benefit of mankind, it's totally not... it's purely to help companies minimise their risk so that the man can make more money in the long term.... and I know it's going to be made redundant by AI in the next 10 (years, minutes, who knows)...

Which is why I'm so excited about Steem and other blockchain solutions, along with minimising both my carbon footprint and my reliance on the rest of the world... got a huge amount of work to do in that space, but it's all pretty exciting!

Enjoy your break dude, you're earned it x 1000.

and I know it's going to be made redundant by AI in the next 10 (years, minutes, who knows)...

this is probably true for the majority of jobs out there -- mine included. It's a bit crazy how so many engineers doubt they could be replaced by machines / AI / algorithms... Pointing pipes downhill isn't rocket surgery (bit more to it than that, obvs -- but whatever), and everything we're doing is pretty math-y -- so it's gotta be on the chopping block somewhere.

Definitely excited about Steem / the crypto-currency movement as well. I hope / think it's going to lead to something exciting before too long -- keen to see it take shape. And hopefully, I don't get left behind when things kick into high gear.

Excellent thoughts and pics dude

Thanks! The dogs and beach are pretty photogenic, so it makes it simple!

Went on a bit of a rant -- but oh well. It feels nice to write some thoughts down every now and then.

HAVE a nice Weekend ... from Seoul in Winter
