Fight Depression; Spare your Life (Simple tips to fight depression)
Depression – a pain that no one can see unless it hits you and makes you feel like you’re the only person in the world. You breathe with an empty soul. Yes! You’re alive but dead inside. People see themselves as unworthy, as if no one sees them, as if no one would listen to them, as if nobody cares for them even their own family. These are some of the reasons why suicide cases are very rampant nowadays. We often hear people say that depression is the main suspect of suicide. I don’t understand. What’s with depression that it makes people kill themselves? Is suicide an act of bravery or cowardly? To tell you the truth I never recognize depression as something that could make a negative impact to someone’s life until a good friend of mine shared her feelings of sadness.
She was a friend who seems to be quite happy and easily laughs at my joke but behind her smiles are sad and dark experiences in her childhood. She was a victim of abuse, of separation of parents, of shouts and arguments, of bloody fights, and of unhealthy romantic relationship. She gets disheartened every time she sees something that has the same feeling, ambience, and visuals on her unpleasant childhood experiences. She keeps her door lock, doesn’t eat, doesn’t reply any texts, cries all night long, and even think of killing herself. She’s a victim of her past and depression is haunting her. “What can I do?” The only question I had in my mind every time I see her pulling herself down.
As a good friend, I made a research on how to fight depression in order to help my friend. I tried it with her whenever she feels sad and lonely again. The results were really great and I can see how much positivity she met. So if you ever feel sad and lonely, as if the world turned its back on you try these simple steps that I have gathered from reliable sources.
5 Tips on dealing depression
Look for support from people you feel safe and cared for – The person you talk to doesn’t have to be able to fix you; they just need to be a good listener—someone who’ll listen attentively and compassionately without being distracted or judging you.
Do things that make you feel good – Try the activities that you used to enjoy or you can also engaged in relaxing activities such as yoga, meditation, breathe in and breathe out. Figure out the things that stress you the most and find ways to relieve that stress.
Care for pet – pets may not be able to understand your language but they can understand your feelings. They are the best companion when you are sad because they don’t complain, doesn’t judge you and most of all they would listen to everything you say.
Get a daily dose of sunlight – Get out of your room and see the brightness of the world. You don’t have to lock yourself in the dark room because behind those close doors are open opportunities for you. It’s also good to travel to some nice places.
Reflect on the good memories you have and think of the future you want – Thinking about your great future makes you want to experience it rather than ending your life. Reflecting on good memories and how much you’ll miss the people behind those moment makes you want to see them more and create another good memory.
These are the simple tips that I have gathered and somehow helped my friend living her life. But if these things don’t work for you or your friend, well you may want to see a professional such as a counselor that could help and guide you in your problems.
So if depression strikes, push it away and more importantly seek the Lord's guidance. Although it will not heal that fast, if you're always positive you will not notice that you're already recovering. So tell your depression
