People of Myanmar - 1

in #travel9 years ago (edited)

Day 1

When I travelled to Myanmar a while ago, I was impressed and shocked at the same time. I had never been to a country so isolated from the rest of the world before.

Wandering through Yangon, riding little boats across Inle Lake and climbing some of the thousands of temples of Bagan, I felt like I had entered a different world. The country was so much less westernized than any other place I knew in SEA, it was beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time.

In the upcoming days, I want to share pictures of people I met with you guys and tell you how I met them, what I found out about them and what they might tell us about their country.

So this is not gonna be a classic travel blog about Myanmar, I rather want to let you take part in my experience with local people. I will combine the pictures with shots of the places I met them in order to let you dive into Myanmar and it's people. Enjoy.

The first shot I want to share with you is one of my favorite pictures I ever took. I went to this place called Golden Rock or "Kyaiktiyo" in their own language. It is a sacred rock on top of a hill that has been covered by golden leaves by the buddhist population. It is a very important religious place for the buddhists and was very crowded with local tourists. Let me show you the place first:

When I stumbled down stairs and nearly fell, I looked back up and saw this group of three monks. Even though I am not religious, I had what you call a special moment I guess. To me, they were the wisest and most noble persons I ever met their aura was incredibly intense. I stopped, made eye contact with them and when they smiled a little bit I took the following picture (that has been hanging in my room back in germany ever since).

I hope this picture transports a little bit of what I felt. If you like it, follow, upvote, resteem, I do not really know how things work in here yet, but I am happy as long as you guys feel like you did not waste your time reading this. Talk to you soon!
