Professor Says Otto Warmbrier "Got What He Deserved"?!

in #politics7 years ago

In todays complete ridiculous news...we have yet another college professor saying or doing something completely out-fucking-rageous. Peep this fellow STeemians...

Professor Kathy Dettwyler who teaches Anthropology at Univeristy of Delaware wrote on her Facebook page which has since been deleted (of course).

"Is it wrong of me to think that Otto Warmbrier got exactly what he deserved? He went to North Korea for fucks sake, and then acted like a spoiled, naive, arrogant US college student who had never had to face the consequences of his actions. I see him crying at his sentencing hearing & think "What did you expect?" How about a few moments of thought given to all the other people in North Korea who are suffering under the repressive government there? Just because they are North Koreans & not US Citizens, we shouldn't care about them?

Oh but wait...there's more...

"These are the same kids who cry about their grades because they didn't think they'd really have to read and study the material to get a good grade. His parents ultimately are to blame for his growing up thinking he could get away with whatever he wanted,"

You can kinda see her point okay we get it. He was spoiled, he thought it wasn't a big deal okay. But she conTINUES kickin this dude while he's down or dead actually...

"'Maybe in the US, where young, white, rich, clueless white males routinely get away with raping women. Not so much in North Korea. And of course, it's Otto's parents who will pay the price for the rest of their lives,"

Okaaaaaayyyyyyyy...now here comes the fuckin supa dupa crazy. I mean seriouslY? You're gonna equate rapists with this kid who just basically got murdered by a North Korean dictator?!? (as far as we know)

Folks, tell me this isn't the absolute craziest shit you've ever heard. Sound off! !

You can call him stupid in a sense for even attempting to take something from North Korea and he was incredibly naive to think that he could get away with it, but serious harm and death as a consequence of something so minor is in no way justified. One moment of madness ruined and ultimately ended his life.

Agreed. I can't even believe somebody would wanna go there let alone do something like this. It's really troubling that the Obama administration did absolutely nothing to help though. I still feel we're not being told the whole story of whatever that may be. It's the US govt...when do they ever tell the truth tho right?!

I can see the fascination with North Korea. There are few places like it. But when you take a trip to places like these you have to be aware of everything you do and the consequences that your actions might have, even if back home such an action would be considered insignificant. Unfortunately Otto didn't give much thought towards that. Perhaps he felt somewhat invincible being American. Who knows. It's sad but a reminder to anyone planning a visit there that these things can and do happen if you're not careful.

Man there SJW have a rotten senseof justice. Even a non American like me thinks it is cruel and inhumane to kill someone just for stealing a poster.

What if this kind of thing happens in the US prison? There would be an outrage. I think his death was interentional and he was targeted for being an American citizen.

It just savage for North Korea to realestate a dying prisoner like that. They should be tried for war crimes.

Yes me too. This whole situation just stunk so bad. Why didn't Dennis Rodman go there earlier? Why didn't the Obama administration do something. The family said they were completely worthless. It's almost the same thing the US GOVT does to it's own spies. They disassociate themselves & leave them there. I'm wondering if he was part of some spy program. Maybe the parents didn't even know, I'm sure they would hold him to keep it classified.
