Step by step poster illustration with hand lettering

Hola!

Wow, I will be an official author of the poster for VK Fest 2018! It is one of the biggest summer festivals in Russia. The organizer is the largest social network in Russia vk.com (Vkontakte). It is really big honor for me to participate in such big event. They had a contest for the alternate festival's poster and my and other's 4 winners artworks will be exposed in the different creative galleries in Saint Petersburg. So cool!

So today I want to show you my creative process of doing custom poster design with cozy hand lettering.

Sketch and the idea

As always, starting from the pencil sketch. After finding the right idea and composition, I redraw my sketch and make it more detailed. Here on the picture version of just photo of my detailed sketch and the version after playing with Levels (ctr+L) in Photoshop.

Colors

The next step is to define your color palette. I make the new Layer (sketch layer is in Multiply mode) and make rough color blocks to understand the approximate colors. Ok, I like this variant, choose it :)

Details

So the next steps are really meditative and simple: make color shape by pen tool -> new texture layers by different brushes above -> repeat with another element. That's it, no magic tricks.

Final art

Ta-daaam! The main requirement was to add hashtags #music, #art, #food etc., so for this reason my poster has so many lettering signs here :)
