What's Growing in our Winter High Tunnel?!
We live in zone 6b and loooove fresh greens which prompts us to have a garden year round.
We've just started to get some cold nights here (mid 20s-mid 30s) and some of our plants bit the dust in the unheated high tunnel. But not all!
The lettuce is coming up nicely
As are the carrots and parsley.
This cabbage and the spinach is growing well
And the leeks are looking fine, along with our older arugula and kale plants
And don't forget that lovely bitter endive!
This is our first winter with the high tunnel and we're so thankful! I apprenticed with Eliot Coleman of 4 Season Gardening (great book to check out!) in my 20s and was so inspired that he not only grew a plenty of veggies year round, but was the only farmer on the Atlantic coast growing Artichokes in Maine! We can do nearly anything if we put our creativity into it :)
Nice! Looking really good. I’m in zone 5, hoping to do some 4 season gardening next year if I can build the infrastructure.
Thanks! Have you read Eliot's book? Has a lot of great info and a simple hoop house design. (They're also easy to find on YouTube, etc :)
Yep, I have the Four-Season Harvest. The biggest issue is spacing and grade. I need to knock down quite a few trees and find a level spot. But I have plans to make it work, thanks the pointers.

We are in a zone 3-4 depending on which hardiness formula you use. A high tunnel is near the top of our list of infrastructure once we move to our land.
Is that a kit or did you build from scratch?
It was actually the metal posts given to us by a friend! It had a few quirks but we worked it out.
Good luck getting your high tunnel worked out. I imagine it will really extend the season where you are.
