Slacklining | A Balancing Act For Mind, Body & Spirit (DTube Video)
In this video, I walk you through the basics of balancing on the slackline and how to stay up!
Slacklining is one of my favorite practices, one that engages and enlivens my body and stills my mind.

This practice entails you and a piece of webbing strung taught between two vertical supports (often trees). This offers unlimited potential for play, training and fun. Think of a tightrope, but thicker and often with more slack.
Slacklines come in either 1" or 2" widths and in a few different styles. The style I have used for several years is known as a 1" primitive system (no ratchets involved). It is constructed of 1" tubular nylon webbing and requires only 2 caribeeners and a line lock (a strong aluminum circle to lock in the webbing). Other systems involve ratchets to create a very tight line. This is where personal preference comes into play. My style is a fairly loose 1" line.
The practice of slacking has become a big part of my life, picked up as a nomad and continued as a homesteader.
The simplIcity of the practice is marvelous and the benefits are wide ranging. By challenging myself to find center and maintain balance, I am training my body and mind to to vigilant and aware. In the process I am also having a lot of fun!
It took me several sessions and a few falls before I could stand on the line, but once I did I was hooked!
I realized my balance was being constantly challenged and my muscles engaged to a point where I was so focused there was no room for thought. It became for me a mediation in motion. I began developing stabilizing muscles and building a stronger core. I also noticed how refreshed and balanced I felt after slacking. It has done so much in training my body and mind that I feel compelled to share this simple tool for health and wellness.
Yoga Slack Asanas & More
I'm stoked to share with you all and have chosen to present a video series, outlining my slacklining practice. In doing so I'm hoping to inspire more body awareness, engagement and vitality. I will go through how to do different exercises and how I've applied yoga asanas to the line and have stretched my personal boundaries. If you haven't already I hope you will try slacking soon, Enjoy!
Feel free to request specific things regarding slacklining for us to make a video about!

It looks like lots of fun. I've seen people do it at the park, but I've never been able to do it. I'm not super balancy. That's ok. I have fun watching. :)
You may not be balancy now (don't sell yourself so short, you are a biped after all) but with practice you'd be walking in no time!
So cool!!!! Totally want to get a slackline now!! I think my boys would love this too!
YAY! they really are a load of fun. I wish I had one as a child. Best of luck.
So amazing, hmmmm kinda scary, but the benefits are so enormous, catching fun and at the same time training your body, I'm certainly gonna try it, thanks for sharing.
Nice. For me most things worth doing should have potential for fun. Hope you enjoy slacking!
This must be what the kids at the local university do sometimes when I'm passing. They string up between trees and balance and walk.
Exactly! it's a whole mess of fun. Slacklining is also a fantastic balancing and strengthening practice.
They don't always use tightly woven rope. They use looser almost really long almost hammock type lines?
