Herbal Flu Remedies Using Simple Kitchen Herbs (Vlog)

in #homesteading8 years ago (edited)

Join us as I take a walk through our homestead in search of healing herbs for Wren, who has been sick with a flu virus. She's been down for a few days with body aches and sore throat and I knew I needed to support her (plus the Queen requested herbs!).

I soon realized that we had a wide range of useful herbs already established so I went for a cruise around our land.

The very herbal allies we need are growing all around our homestead, and we wanted to share with you some of these sweet herbs. They are very common, easy to ID and are widespread meaning you too will most likely be able to find some growing near you or have them in your garden.

We're honing in on a few herbs in this vlog as I make an anti inflammatory, soothing and relaxing herbal tea for Wren.

Do you have many of these herbs growing near you?

It's incredible to realize these "common" "kitchen herbs" can be the very ones we need for healing!

I have all of them...and use all of them.

That's awsome! It's such a blessing to have these friends growing near is us isn't it?

Great content @mountainjewel! This material should be presented to all the mothers out there for their children. Beside natural plants some good Art/Music would heal our Souls as well. Regards

So true. It would be wise if ALL ppl took herbal courses in school or through a mentor. There's so much right in front of us that could help us live healthier lives.

This is so true @mountainjewel! Looking forward for more organic blogs shared by you. Hope you'll enjoy my blogs wich are organic in matter of Art/Music :-)

Don't forget to upvote our comments vice versas. All the best. Regards

Oh, Ini you are such a good man. It sounds like you have more than enough to make amazing teas. I hope Wren is feeling better soon. Mr. Bird still isn't up to speed. He tells me this flu could last 14 days, no fun! Stay well, happy foraging :) Hugs to you both!

Oh yikes, 2 weeks! Sorry to hear about mr Bird. Wish him well.

She's been enjoying the teas, but still not back in action. Maybe a gallon a day for herbal infuions, so it's not for lack of trying. Some of these are the Herbs you gave us from Myrtle lane too;) thanks!

Bentonite mixed with water is also very good to drink to help eliminate the toxins. I have used it with success when i got food poisoning after a car wreck left me with 12 broken bones (neck, other spinal parts ribs shoulder etc) and in a halo brace. It was messed up to have to expel in perfect posture & brokeness. Then i thought of the healing properties of bentonite took it and was immediately relieved. I did have to expel again. Took another dose heaping teaspoon of bentionite in water and after the second dose i knew i'd live through it. If you have some, give it a go. Much love --get well soon Wren. Hope you don't get it to Ini 💜💖💜

Wow, sounds like you went through a lot, sorry to hear about your accident.

We do have bentonite on hand and may give it a go, thanks for your success story. Rest nourish repeat...

You are welcome! I hope you're successful at eliminating the virus too. You've got it... rest, noursih, repeat!

I always include Lemon Balm in my brews, it's my herb. It jives with me well. I have jars filled with dried herbs specifically for brew making and for tonics, some of which taste terrible, like Dandelion Root or Budoch Root, but hey, if I have blood poisoning, they're there and will cleanse me right away. The worse tasting herb I ever had to drink was comfrey, when I broke my nose, after the operation. But the doc had never seen a fast healing and solid nose bone in just one week before. Herbs do so much and they're so accessible and inexpensive.

Great to hear it! Our herbal allies are so willing to help. We actually like taste of burdock and dandelion, we even plant bigger varieties of each...

Comfrey is amazing indeed. I knocked my shin yesterday and it was already bruising swelling a lot within 10 minutes. A comfrey poultice took away all bruising, pain and swelling.

Happy you love Herbs too!

You like the taste of Burdock? :p I guess we all have our plants whose taste we enjoy. I suppose it's an acquired taste ;)

Great info. Pictures make the post. Very helpful. Thanks!

Glad you enjoyed!

Nice post! You might add yarrow too, as it breaks the fever by increasing its peak (diurphoretic), is antibiotic, and anti-inflammatory.

Thanks! So funny because Post filming we actually did add some yarrow... so many Herbs around us to help heal.

So True! Herbs are my only medicine, I stopped scrips years ago. Doing much better too. I am planting all the herbs I use, to make a kind of permaculture medicine forrest. Yarrow is a more recent one that I have not planted yet. Working on a batch of Comfrey Tincture right now, one of my go to plants!

Happy herbaling! :)

Thyme is a winner for me, as it's really good for my lungs. I'm asthmatic, so if I get a bad cold I will put thyme in boiling water, put my head over it and a towel and it will really clear my lungs.

Oooh, I love thyme vapor too. I've had asthma in the past and lean on steam inhalation when my lungs need sone love too. Thanks for sharing.

Nature provides the best cures. We always add some ginger and turmeric to our connocations too. Get well soon!
