The Standard Manufacturing Co., built by Dr. Daniel Andrews Sr. on the eastern tip of Cedar Key manufactured "Donax Brushes" and brush fibers out of young cabbage palms (Sabal Palmetto) from 1910 until 1952 (except during World War II.)
Palm fibers were shipped nationwide and as far away as Canada, Germany, and Australia. To locals it was known as the "Fiber Factory".
