J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter Inspirations From Porto, Portugal

in #writing7 years ago (edited)

I'm sure some of you like Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling. But have you ever wondered about how she wrote them? I live in Portugal, it's a fun country with lots of interesting things to explore.
The first Harry Potter novel "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" was released at 26 June 1997 and it went crazy, J.K. Rowling success was around the corner. Miss Rowling moved to Portugal looking for a better future in 1990 and became an English teacher in Porto.

Porto, Portugal

After a while, J.K. Rowling met and married Jorge Arantes, a Portuguese journalist. Their daughter, Jessica, came to light in 1993, and after some time the couple's marriage ended in divorce, after that Miss Rowling moved to Edinburgh with Jessica to live near her sister, Di.
While having a hard time and trying to feed her daughter and herself, Rowling worked on a book, the idea for which appeared while she was traveling on a train from Manchester to London in 1990.

After multiple rejections, she finally sold her book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, for $4,000.

Success

By the summer of 2000, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban earned approximately $500 million in three years, with over 40 million copies in print in 45 languages. After a postponed release date, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, went to bookstores in June 2003. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, sold 7 million copies in the United States in 24 hours, the biggest opening in publishing history. Prior to its July 2007 release, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, was the largest ever pre-ordered book at Barnes & Noble and Borders bookstores.

Miss Rowling, now Britain's 13th richest woman—richest than even the Queen—does not plan to write any more books in the series, but has not exclude the possibility.

J.K Rowling slowly found inspiration to write our beloved Harry Potter in Porto magical places like museums, cafes and libraries.
