What I Do When I'm Not On Steemit
I Manage Two Music Studios In South Africa
When I'm not creating posts about random things I find interesting on Steemit by night, I manage 2 really awesome music studios, one in Cape Town and the other in Joburg. Our main focus is unfortunately not recording artists and bands, but more on the commercial side of things. We write and record original music for TV and Radio, as well as recording for movies and series. Here is an example of what we do and how we do it...

Now that you have an idea of what we do, let me explain a little more, usually an advertising agency will approach us with a creative idea and the style of music their client would like on the advert. We would then submit to them a 2 -3 different options and if they're happy tweak it a little and bob's you're uncle, when they're not happy, well back to the drawing board we go. The hardest part about this is probably being creative on demand. The style of music is also a huge factor, but we do everything, from orchestral to African kwaito.

The main reason that agencies rather opt for original composed music as apposed to music by some famous artist is because of the costs. Some of the usage fees for using other people's music can range into millions of dollars. It's a very lucrative industry, and there are some great composers out there that we have to compete with. Luckily we have @heypapalegend who is our CEO, my fellow Hog Hoggidy Hog band mate as well as best friend as our main composer. Then we have his older brother who heads up our Johannesburg studio.

What exactly do I do... Well I help with writing, but mostly I handle the admin, marketing, financial side and scheduling of things, making sure we get paid and get more business. So far we have had a pretty successful year, we picked us 7 awards and a few international nominations and wins, including Cannes.
We rarely do artists and bands only because the time it takes to record and mix, and because of the current and endless workload that makes it impossible to fit in. So it has become more of hobby, we only take on music we love and have a passion for doing when it comes to artists. Here's our show reel with some of our old work we have done over the years.
