MemeLogic - Is Everything Still Stupid?

Most Probably

I love how fact checking works in the age where we are able to check the validity of those truths. I recently saw Snopes, you know the new bastions of what is truth in the world, fact checked a claim that the Dems have tried to impeach nearly every single republican president since Eisenhower. They came back with it being mostly false because out of the six GOP presidents they only brought articles of impeachment against only five. I mean that's mostly true, even a child would agree right, 5 out of 6, but it places the democrats in a bad light, and they will have none of that regardless of it being completely wrong. Long gone are the days of being intellectually honest or even truthful, it's about winning and making the political party they support look good to the public even by technically lying the the masses. The sad part is that some folks don't even bother to read past the headline, because they want information that supports the position even if it's incorrect. But you can't make people believe the truth and we all have a bit of confirmation bias, but the most important part is that we are at least aware of when we are being lied to and by whom.

The story in itself is rather silly, but the reason I brought this up was because Snopes is considered by companies like Facebook and Twitter to be reliable fact checking sources. So when you news companies pushing fake news as well as the fact checkers on the same side political side dictating what is considered to be true, you have a serious problem. Bull shit should be pointed out where ever it is found and its only us who can point it out. A great example of this would be the "Epstein Didn't Kill Himself" meme that has just flooded all aspects of social media, to the degree that it can not be ignored by the mainstream media, and the fact that they continue to do so, speaks louder than them even addressing it.

"We live in a world where all wars will begin as cyber wars... It's the combination of hacking and massive, well-coordinated disinformation campaigns." - Jared Cohen
