"all is well" - Travel With Me To Green Turtle Cay, Bahamas 2017

in #travel7 years ago

Last week my family, boyfriend (@sevinwilson), and myself traveled to Green Turtle Cay, Bahamas in the Abacos. What a week! After a rough start we had a blast!

We left Tallahassee, Florida the morning of July 1st at 4am and drove to Tampa, Florida to catch our 11:45 flight. Ahhhh! So early! But my dad insisted on leaving that early so we couldn't argue. After arriving in Tampa we began our check in to Silver Airways. My boyfriend and I went first, they asked for out passports and his wasn't there.... we had left his passport in Tallahassee. I was so upset and freaking out!! But like always he had a solution to fix it. Silver airways changed his flight to leave Tampa the next day and his dad was going to meet him in Gainesville to hand off the passport. I was still not happy but I had to go with it and continue on with my flight. So we got checked in and @sevinwilson went on his journey to retrieve his passport.

We finally arrived in Treasure Cay, Bahamas around 5:30 and had to take a quick boat ride to the island of Green Turtle Cay!

After a long day of traveling and getting settled in our house we woke up Sunday and it was time to pick up @sevinwilson from the airport in Marsh Harbor, Bahamas and get this trip started! Marsh Harbor is about a 30 minute boat ride away from Green Turtle so after we picked him up we went island hopping to Guana Cay and had lunch.

Monday morning, before we went out on the boat, we decided to go to the "grocery store" and try to fill the house up with some food. The imported food from the states is pretty pricey in the Bahamas so we had to shop for only the necessities! The "grocery store" is so tiny and cute and only has limited options.

The rest of the week was mainly just boating and island hopping through that gorgeous, crystal blue water! It was paradise! We did some diving, fishing, and conching around all the islands. Luckily my dad grew up in Key West, Florida and his family is originally from Green Turtle so he has been traveling here for most of his life and he knows the waters down there! He is our own personal tour guide!

A starfish that we dove up, we let him go after the pictures!

In the afternoons we would go into town and explore! The town is tiny and mainly little shack houses, bars, and stores. I am obsessed! It is the cutest thing!!

The town of Green Turtle Cay is call New Plymouth!

Miss Emily's is the home of the original Goombay Smash drink!

Fresh Bahamian bread baked everyday by the local Bahamian women!

The Green Turtle Club is a local marina, bar, and bungalow where you can hangout. The bar area is filled with dollars that people have stapled to the wall!

At Pineapples! One of the most popular restaurants/bars right on the water!

We visited the grave of where our 3rd or 4th great grandparents were born! (pictured: my brother Mason on the left and cousin Norman in the middle)

On the last day we went and visited No Name Cay, which is the pig island! An island where about 30 to 40 pigs live and swim around. It was so cute! There got to be too many wild pigs running around on Green Turtle, so they took them over to the island to to Green Turtle to live. Many people come to visit them on a daily basis and feed them. The locals have brought a little water truck over to the island to give them fresh water and many shops on Green Turtle have a piggy fund that you can donate to for their food and such!

The water truck for the pigs!

Normally the mama pigs will charge you for holding the babies but I got away with it somehow!

I can say in all that our trip to Green Turtle Cay was one of the best trips we have taken! I def didn't want to go back to reality!

What an extremely beautiful place. Beautiful photos, loved it

It is awesome! Definitely recommend it!

Thanks for sharing such great pictures. My wife and I spent part of our honeymoon on Green Turtle Cay almost 25 years ago. Looks much the same as it did then. We need to plan an anniversary trip back soon!

lovely photo's particularly all that money lol

Looks like an amazing trip @morgannwood! I've seen a few posts about these piggies now, and would love to visit :) Was also reading your intro post and I think it's great that you've started your own boutique in the family business. I currently run my own company as well, breeding dogs, and I think independent business is definitely the way to go. I look forward to seeing more of your adventures :)

Hey, loved this travel story!! I'm a friend of @sevinwilson!!
