A POEM FROM A DECEASED LOVED ONE
A personal tribute I've created myself in support of all those struggling to cope with the loss of a loved one.
My time on Earth has come to an end
My dear I want you to be content
I know you're hurting, I see you cry
I spirit I am right here by your side
When the sun tomorrow without me shall rise
Overwhelmed with emotions all you see is grey skies
Be certain you will heal, just give yourself time
I've placed my hand in yours for the last time
Auspicious occasions won't be the same
As my absence is felt you feel the pain
You bestowed upon me mercy when you let me go
I will now be residing in my eternal home
The unconditional love you showed I'll never forget
As I laid for weeks in a hospital bed
With all my mood swings and irritability
As I struggle to accept my new capabilities
You let me offload and dried my eyes
You assured me its okay, kissed my worries goodbye
You brushed my teeth, made my bed, brushed my hair
Be proud of yourself as you've given me such great care
As comfort foods when I found myself faced with emotional despair
You served me my choice of ice cream, peaches, mangoes and pears
With every breath I draw each day and night
I pray that God will protect you with all His might
In my old age when I walked you let me use your body for support
So that I wouldn't stumble and kiss the floor
Thank you for cherishing each moment we have together
For I can assure you it will be in your memory forever
Never failing to stand by my side
My love for you is something
Which you have always acknowledged and recognized
The love between us is true and will always be
Even after the day when my soul is set free
I won't always be here, remember that
Death is unfortunately a very sound fact
You lovingly rubbed my cheeks and kissed my head
Not caring for your own exhausted
You tucked me safely into bed
As my health deteriorated and took a turn for the worst
You never got frustrated, never screamed or cursed
Despite being helpless you loved me no less
You were by my side daily, showing no trace of stress
I never felt neglected, always bathed and fed
You dolled me up, always neatly dressed
You never left me hungry, thirsty, dirty or wet
In my times of despondence and disbelief
You gave me courage, restored m faith, brought out the best in me
You pampered me on a daily basis
Accompanied me to all different places
You always awoke from your deepest sleep
With a smile on your face to see to me
Hugged me, kissed me, love vocally expressed
I always felt safe in your caress
The time has come for us to part
As I lay here before you with my once beating heart
Be patient O loved one, we'll meet again
In the highest place in Heaven I pray, Amen.
