Steem Monsters Early Access Review

Steem Monsters are live and you can start playing the game today. This is an internet browser based card game on Steem blockchain (at this point everyone on Steemit knows this). This game shows the power of Steem blockchain and the quickness of transactions without any transaction fees.

You can trade cards and combine them in order to level those cards up, then you can fight harder opponents and still lose if your dice roll and matchup wasn't favorable. Who will the game pair you with it is all based on how close you are on the rankings, but very quickly you will end up where you belong depending on how much money you spent on packs and cards.

There are alpha and beta cards right now, you will need to combine less alpha cards and more beta cards in order to level them up, so if you have both prepare for some frustrating mix up between the two, sometimes you will be confused which version to upgrade.

First and foremost I'm a game critic and pay to win games were never something I enjoyed, this is the first time ever I enjoyed this kind of game (it is on my favorite blockchain after all), but I have to say it is frustrating as hell when you end up fighting maxed out opponents with your lvl 4 monsters. It will similarly be frustrating when lvl 1 monsters fight my lvl 4 monsters, in short it is an endless loop of frustration if you are not maxed out.

Of course this is all early, everything can and will change in the future, but I fear that pay to win aspect will stay as long as the game will last. Therefore it is not fair to give the game a score right now, I will wait few more months when some balancing and game systems are sorted out. Until then I will be hanging around silver rankings fighting and beating every low level who wants to get there and being denied by every higher level team to get to gold.

Around 100$ spent on the game (if you bought packs) will get you on silver rankings and you will still have to fill up missing levels to unlock that OP monster ability.

Overall Steem Monsters are fun to play until you reach a brick wall of lvl 6 and higher monsters, then you will start to get frustrated, but that is how the game is designed, if you don't like it then it is safe to go and play something else.
