Red Faction Games
Red Faction is a first person shooter series set on Mars. One of the main features of Red Faction games is environment destruction. Almost everything can be blown to pieces. Red Faction games remind me of a great movie classic with Arnold Schwarzenegger Total Recall, that is always a great feature when games can do that. There are alien elements and ancient technology hiding beneath the surface of Mars. Every game will offer decent amount of fun and this is one of those franchises not known by many people but as you start playing you will get hooked easy. SF shooter franchise worth playing for sure.
Red Faction
2001. is the year when first Red Faction game came out and the game was innovative in many ways. It was a brand new shooter franchise in a brand new environment on a planet Mars with great objects destruction model. Story is interesting enough where you as a protagonist find yourself fighting for miners rights against slaveish corporation.
Red Faction 2
Second game in the series was also very fun to play. There was more variety and this time we had more vehicles to fly, drive, or shoot with. In Red Faction 2 we play as an explosive expert (considering it is a destruction type of game not too surprised there) trying to find research data for the Commonwealth Republic. Great sequel.
Red Faction: Guerrilla
Third game in the series is when developers start to change things. They switched from interesting first person shooter perspective to third person shooter perspective. It is good to switch things up to make the game fresh but did that work this time. It was ok. Story was not that interesting, it was based on exploring big sandbox map and taking out military installations. Check this one out if you like the idea of more destructible GTA kind of game set on planet Mars.
Red Faction: Armageddon
Last game in the series was released in 2011. and was more linear in level design than fully sandbox Guerrilla. This time alien creatures started appearing from depths of Mars and of course they are very aggressive. You will try to stop the plague outbreak with the help of many tools of destruction, things do literally melt from you gunfire. Decent game if you like cleansing alien scum with big guns. Fun series!
My favorite alien invasion game is Gears Of Wars and Halo Sagas.
Those are more mainstream and also great for sure.
If it had a Linux native port, it will attract the nerds for sure. Linux ports are the hype in gaming this days
