Blog Update - The Curious Case of My Status

I am a white male. I am tall, over six feet. I was born in Australia with an Australian passport. Even without any money, I still have many privileges not to be taken for granted.

I am not a woman. Traveling women have a lot more trouble than I do on the streets. To travel as I am and pretend to be somehow protected by some overseeing light is just a little farfetched. I am a tall man. This is another factor as to why I am generally left alone. I am a tall man that often gives the impression he knows where he is going even when he does not.

I was born in a first world country, one of the richest infact. I can travel freely to most countries with minimal questions about how much money I have or when I plan to leave the country. I can evade these questions reasonably easily. This is not the case for someone that may be of a brown skin colour. Oh, yes, did I mention? I am of a white skin colour. I am a tall, white male.

It could be easy to assume, considering how many countries I've been to in the nomadic way, that I am somehow blessed/gifted and protected, on a troubadouric/dervische mission from God! Guided by the fuzzy wuzzy positive energies that be!

But, no.

That would simply be blindsiding you from the truth. All the things that I was naturally born with offer me a high level of security both physically and financially. The greatest punishment I will get if I misbehave most times will be a slap on the wrist and a free ride home. This is not the case for people from other countries who are put in jail after they have been deported. I know this because I, as privileged as I am, have shared 19 days in detention with them in the UK for overstaying and then also for trying to get back in.

How utterly absurd.

In a world of crisis, (eg. climate crisis, refugee crisis, energy crisis, food crisis yada yada yada) my actions are those of a self-entitled tall white male from one of the richest countries in the world believing he is on some higher mission chosen by god.

Yet, I continue, a broke musician living at the bottom rung of the ladder of class as some sort of cosmopolitan hipster. A crashed out rock star from 1969 that hasn't yet caught up with the current state of events.

Is anything in this world authentic anymore? What is real?

Yet, so much of this world is absurd. So much of the way it is run. So many of the solutions offered to the problems of today by the powers that be are just utterly absurd in light of what actually needs to be done. The absurdity of my existence is a fraction of a drop in the ocean to the absurdity of the actions of the elected leaders; the rate at which our age is moving into technologification; and the laws and policies being passed to remove what freedom we once had.

This is a global crisis. The global crisis of absurdity.

Yet, we stare at our phones, day in, and day out, we fail to see the absurdity in society because we are so distracted.

But look, there's a washed out rock star on the streets trying to scream some anti-capitalist nonsense...

There are no more any rules or borders for what we can/should try in order to attempt to shake a public dumbed down by distraction.

What will be the next creative inspiration to pull the sleepers from malaise?

Ideas? Crazy hipster jesus wannabe is all ears.
