• Amidst this season we find ourselves and the situation on ground I believe a visit to my farm wouldn't hurt much
• It is not crowded like other work place, just me and dad and a long walk down will ease my boredome and serve a much needed purpose of passing these ugly times.
• Its still early here but it a better times as scourging sun makes work uncomfortable at noon.
• Below is our yam farm with already cultivated hips from last year and yam seedlings planted already.
• Mulching is very important to prevent the yams from rot by the excessive heat from the suns radiation during the dry season.

This we have achieved using plant debris ( or thick grasses as desired)
They were used to cover the tops of the hips directly where the seed was planted below and prevent heat penetration into the soil protecting the underground seeds.

• Above is a picture of what the seeds look like before planting, they are usually cut out from previous tubers ( Seed cut) during harvest and before the tubers are eating or stored

• We usually plant these during the end of the raining 🌧 seasons mostly November/December sometimes October inclusive, the times are decided by the weather.

• Seeds remain dormant for 2-4 months and then begin to sprout during the onset of another raining seasons.

• Our yams usually take 8-10 months before they are harvested for consumption.

Here is an extension of the farmland where we wanted to make ridges before the ground got dried and could no longer be tilled, to avoid excessive labor from such.

• Some of our yams on storage and used timely as needed.
  Yams can be eating boiled, fried or pounded, it could also be made into yam flour an African traditional dish.
