Project xCloud - Brings Your Xbox Games To Phone & Tablet [MMG]
On October 8th Microsoft announced a new project that will bring Console games to phones and tablets, Project xCloud.
Ultimately, Project xCloud is about providing gamers — whether they prefer console or PC — new choices in when and where they play, while giving mobile-only players access to worlds, characters and immersive stories they haven’t been able to experience before.

The Future Is Crossplay
Imagine a world where you buy PUBG on the Xbox, and so when you log into your MICROSOFT profile on your PC --OMG, you can play it on your PC as well, because you already paid for it and the tech exists. Or, you download the mobile version and what...omg, it's actually your profile. Well, this could very well be the future that we're destined for with Project xCloud.
Sony Gives In -- For Now
In the past year, many milestones have been hit for a better future to gaming, like the OASIS, the gaming environment displayed in the blockbuster movie Ready Player One. We're still far from the open environment presented in that movie, but with games like Fortnite bridging the way in crossplay on console, and decentralized projects like Enjin Coin's Multiverse, this future isn't sounding quite so impossible anymore. Even the ever-reluctant Sony caved in and has allowed PS4 crossplay with players on Xbox...Xbox! Wow.
The first step will be an open beta beginning today for Fortnite that will allow for cross platform gameplay, progression and commerce across PlayStation 4, Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, and Mac operating systems. We see the beta as an opportunity to conduct thorough testing that ensures cross-platform play is best on PlayStation, while being mindful about the user experience from both a technical and social perspective.
So, it may still just be a big ego trip for Sony, but at least that ego trip is helping gamers.
Why Gamers Want Crossplay
Most people have heard of Fortnite by now, and are witness to it's success in some way or another. If you're a gamer, you've recently given a lot of credit to Sony for opening the door, or Microsoft for making your games compatible with Steam and your fricken Xbox (sorry, I've been a gamer a long time. It's been a wild ride) no matter where you originally purchased it. I think a large part of this is due to game developers starting their product on PC...in beta...for free...and then releasing the actual thing to consoles, and the Steam Marketplace. It's showed the big companies that they'll have to open the doors to these other developers that have actual dreams of creating enjoyable worlds for gamers to immerse themselves in.
I for one am happy to see so many companies finally starting to see the bigger picture, or at least imagine it. I mean, they are supposed to be game developers right? People that get-off on creating new worlds and experiences. How could you not want this to happen?
I give this project and the team at Microsoft a thumbs up for Project xCloud, which is a lot more than I can say for Microsoft Cloud. xD
