Countdown to 1000

in #life7 years ago

With this posting, I have ten little posts left until the big 1000 and the release of my first claymation short. To put it mildly....I am beyond nervous. Who does this? Who says, 'Oh, I'm going to build everything I need, shoot, edit, and release a claymation short in a weekish.'
Me. I'm nuts. Have we met?

I took 400 pictures yesterday and plan on running them through Photoshop for touch-ups at some point today. I have been working since yesterday morning, though, so I will probably take a nap before I tackle such a project. My vision is blurry and we all know that you can't make pictures look good if you can't see.

What This Experience Is Teaching Me

Patience

Stop-Motion isn't for the faint of heart. It isn't for the non-doers and break-takers. It takes discipline. Pose - Shoot- Stop- Pose- Shoot- Stop. Rinse and repeat. Over and over and over until you have what you need. I'm hoping for a 5 minute short. It took Nick Park 6 years to shoot A Grand Day Out. Granted he is a pro and I am not. Not yet anyway.

Resourcefulness

I am working on a pauper's budget and have learned to use things that I never would have thought of. Prime example: I learned how to fashion a tripod out of a cup, which saved me $20 and proved effective. I used scrap wire for forms on background scenery, and saved a box from the recycle bin to use for my "set", which turned out wonderfully.

This is Hard Freakin' Work

Even if it is the funnest of fun, it is very hard work. You have to be sure that everything is posed perfectly before taking the shot. You have to be so still so you don't move the camera while taking the shot. I started holding my breath and releasing on the snap to make it smoother. I spent one day building characters and then another day building background scenery. I built the set, painted it, and then started putting everything together.

I do hope that you all will stop back by to see the short when it is completed. Until then, thanks for stopping by to check out my work. This wee minnow appreciates it greatly!

What fun! I love your fun face. I love what you are doing. My nephew does stop motion with his legos. Just lil silly things he shows me. And yes, he just stands there for hours posing and shooting. I'm so proud of him. I am a writer and improviser. I can write screenplays and yes, that too is very tedious at times. But there is something about the craft that is meditative. I imagine the same is true for what you do. Respect to you fellow film maker. Looking forward to your shorts on DTube. :)

Wow, i can't imagine it. You did try ma'am.

Funny you, then how are going to celebrate it when it finally clocks 1000?

The movie will be my 1000th post. I will then celebrate with a 🍺 and a 🛀, in that order.
note: i do take daily showers, but a bubble bath would be lovely
