Home siphon
We present another of the home experiments, with materials very easy to find at home. It is a homemade siphon:
Material for the home siphon experiment:
1-. A glass jar with a lid.
2-. Two soda sticks.
3-. A nail and a hammer.
4-. Glue and electrical tape.
5-. Water with colorant (optional).
6-. A glass.
Mounting:
1. With the nail and the hammer we made two holes in the lid of the glass jar. Be careful with the hammer.
2. We put the straw through the holes as we see in the picture.
3. Fill the jar with water and place the lid. It is important that air does not enter the jar. We put glue in the union of the straws with the holes in the lid and, if necessary, we can seal the lid of the can with insulating tape.
4. We go around the boat putting the straw that sticks out less in a glass of water.
Water falls from the other straw and from the straw we put in the glass with water, the liquid rises and it goes out inside the boat forming a small spout.
Explanation of home siphon experiment:
When turning the boat, the water falls by the action of gravity, by the straw that is below the water level inside the boat. When the water falls it causes a vacuum inside the boat and the water rises through the straw that is inside the glass with water
