Chai: the drink Indians cannot live without
Chai or tea is an integral part or drink in the life of most people more do in People of Indian subcontinent. The morning starts with chai and this acts as a catalyst for the day. Some are reliant on chai to open their bowels as this acts a prokinetic. Excuse me saying this but it is true.
Chai was there in India for thousands of years but it was expensive. It only became very popular in each and every household after the British established tea plantations in India and Sri Lanka in 1900s to reduce the importing costs of tea from china.
Later they promoted and supported use of tea by providing tea breaks for the workers.
There are several varieties of teas, the most popular in India is the masala chai, where cinnamon and cardamom are mixed.
I particularly like Hyderabad Irani chai, which has a very distinctive taste and flavour. I don’t think no where in the world, one would find so many tea stalls and Cafes.
Enjoy the tea my friends.

What an interesting coincidence that in my native language tea is called "ceai", pretty similar with the Indian word. During winter I also drink tea very often.
Thats good to know
