The Battle painting with progress video.
I often do a personal painting just to push my own limits and see what I am capable of. For me one of the most impressive artworks I see on illustration and concept art sites like Artstation, are paintings of epic battle scenes. They often stand out because they aren't as common as portraits or single character designs.
I had only done one before, years ago so I wanted to see what I could do now. I decided to paint it digitally in Photoshop. Creating an illustration of this size is really time consuming and intimidating if you try do it all in one sitting. I worked on it almost exclusively in my lunch hours over many weeks. Only a little each day but as the saying goes "You eat an elephant one bite at a time" (Hopefully a refrigerated elephant or you would almost certainly die of food poisoning). I learned that you just have to keep going when you're doing a painting like this and not be afraid of changing things as you go if it will improve the over all composition. It was a bit intimidating to get done but I'm very happy with the result.
I made a progression video of my process. In it you can see many my work in progress saves leading up to the final illustration.
battle scenes are hard. not only you managed to finish one, you also made it a masterpiece.
..battle scenes are hard.
MtG skills man =O That's impressive. I also agree about some of the best art on Artstation are battle ones, like Bayard Wu's or Fenghua's, incredible art ! I think it is all about storytelling and connecting with the audience ^^ But damn man, your art is crazy good !!!!
This is spectacular and inspiring! Makes me want to go chew on some elephant... metaphorically speaking of course.
This is wonderful!
