This is my Hobby: Photography

I was just twelve or thirdteen years old boy,i can't exactly remember the time my father let me to take a picture with the camera that had bought by my uncle: Yashica.. we were in a countryside and i saw three trees which were closer each other. i did my plan for the picture and then i walked a bit to be close to trees but they were really far away...Even tought the lenght i took the picture of the trees. It was my first picture that i took and there was no digital cameras on those days...

i fell passion about photography because of the loneliness.Yes it is the truth.Let me tell my story a bit:

After graduating university i found a job and moved from izmir to istanbul. In one day i left my all memories, friends and family behind,in Izmir. It was hard times for me .First when i got Istanbul i hired a hostel room, toilets and bathrooms were out of the room. Getting used to new things were really painful...Let's think : There is no luxury ,no mother who cooks for you any kind of meal. There is only you and the hostel room.It was the first days of my Istanbul diary. After six months i found a house that has got two rooms, kitchen and bathroom :) I began to earn good and i was interested in phones actually early smart phones which had symbian OS and taking pictures with their cameras. In those days it was important for me composition and try to taking picture with a nice composition. I had no idea about size of the sensor area, noise, iso and even aperture :D Just taking pictures. I had a few friends from the office but you know some says : "the strongest tree is which roots are deepest in the earth. " i mean they are just friends not real friends. It was the year 2008 and i decided to take a camera. My first real camera was a Sony H9 with a long decision time. Of course i googled everyday after work about photography and try to learn new things and tried to do what i learnt on internet. After a year later i realized about the differences about the cameras : sensor sizes and differences between dslr-like and dslr.

One year later i had my semi pro camera : Canon EOS 450d...Of course i went on learning new stuffs in internet and tried them all.But this time i needed more money for doing these tries :D As you know slr cameras have a ot of lenses and all of these lenses solves different photography problems. And i could not afford it and i used 18-55 and 50mm f1.8 lenses in a long time, nearly 1.5 years i guess.Meanwhile i got involved myself about sensor types ( as you know cmos and ccd) ,differences between them and purposes of using different lenses. I want to tell about differences of sensor types a little. Shortly CCD is sharp but making too much noise. CMOS is more softer than CCD but it is better about iso and making less noise.

Developing technology and competition between the camera companies made the camera prices cheaper than before. So i decided to buy a Pentax k20D and with these Pentax my real photography journey started.I say so because i used a lot of manual lenses with this camera.Yes i write down all of them : Pentax A 70-200mm f4 , Pentax M 75-150mm f4, Pentax A 50mm f1.4 ,Porst Auto Reflex 55 mm f1.2 .These are all i remebered lenses which were manual. I remebered, one year later Pentax relesead its new camera : Pentax k7...It was really good but its iso perfomence was awful. But it was not a problem for me because i chose my path of photography and in this path i did not need too much iso....I chose street photography...

After my military duty i came back my hometown,Izmir and started to work with my father. In there i bought a Canon EOS 5D classic. It was my goal actually. And i did it. i had a Canon EOS 5d many years later.I want to define that before 5D i used 30D and 60D (Canon) Anyway i talked about my precious (5D) It has a wonderful JPEG quality and if you use good lenses with it you have stunning results in your pictures. As you all know Canon EOS 5D was the first Full Frame camera and that means it has problems. It is slow, its buffer cache is small so when you are in burst mode you can't take a lot of pictures with 5D.And it has an exposure problem because of the lightmetering or i think so. Anyway it was the the camera that i used longest occasionaly after sony a7R.

I sold 5D and bought a new brand camera : Nikon D600 but it had a cronical spots on the sensor problem so i gave it back and i used too short time Nikon D700 and after that Canon 5D Mark II and finally i bought a Canon EOS 5D Mark III. It was a wonderful camera that i have ever used. But problems never finished. Now the problem was size and weight. Canon 5D MIII is really expensive and really superior camera and i love its AF. But it is not the camera that can be used in streets. When i used it with Canon EF 135mm f2 L people were looking at me like a photographer and they could not feel theirselves relaxed and it made them a little bit nerveous. So i changed all my Canon stuff with Fujifilm Stuff : I used Fujifilm XT1 and XE2 in a short time with nearly all of prime lenses. But there was still something missing and it was the depth of field.I mean Fuji has a cropped sensor and i need fullframe sensor. So i finally bought one Sony a7 and after then i changed it with Sony a7R. Yes it is the final destination of my photography Journey. Actually nowadays i am interested in vintage lenses and their usability on Sony a7R with adapters and i had some chance to use legendary lenses like Canon 50mm f0.95 TV mount.

Now i want to write some advises from an amateur street photographer:

First of all photography is really good hobby to do but know that it is expensive at the same time. I spent a lot of money through my story. So if you start firstly you should define what you take with the camera...

best camera+bad lens = bad pictures ( not always but 2 pictures to 10)
normal camera +good lens = good pictures
In there i want to say that " Don't spend all of the money in a good camera body, you need good lenses. For example Canon 5d mark III+28-135mm f3.5-5.6.It is not good option but canon 7D+canon 24-70mm f2.8 L ....Yes we all know 7D wins the battle simply.

Even though all of these stuffs i am an amatur street photographer. If you ask me what the difference between professional and amateur is. I reply you "money" shortly. If you make some money with your works it makes you professional, actually it is my own idea. And i know you ask yourself now the why you are taking pictures then? The answer is simple : It makes me happy and it is a kind of meditation for me . Taking pictures and spending time for photography makes me peaceful and happy. That is all.

And a few final words for the alien friends :D definition of photography is "freezing the time when you want digitally. That is the simple definition of the photography and what are we do this digital pictures later? those alien friends may ask theirselves. I answer for this question for them : Think you freeze frames that you like in life and hide these frames. Hiding these frames makes you collector. Actually when i see my pictures i remember where, when and which camera i used that time and why i was here. And you can think it is a big Memory Palace.

Very good story about how you begin to love photography. It really does give insight into the photographer, what drives him/her and why they see things the way they see it. I took photos when i was younger but it wasn't until later when i started to use gimp editor on my action cams and uploaded them to steemit that it came into focus. My brother does photography and hes really good at it but trying to get advice from him is like trying to win the lotto lol One day he let me use his camera and i felt that draw to it from that point but didn't really pursue it. Anyways thanks for the story

I've been looking at cameras and it can get so confusing what one to buy, I'm somewhat new to the whole thing so i kind of feel overloaded. I was looking at the Sony ar7ii and ar7s iii along with all the other kinds that are labeled the same way and it's just confusing lol. For Sony what one do you like for video and taking still photos for landscape?

Actually hard question to answer because sony made sony a7r series for studio and landscape which produce sharp pictures which has too many image data. And made the sony a7s series for video makers and they add a lot of options for the video. So you must decide what you want firstly. Is the video or photography first for you? The both can take pictures but their resolutions are different and they both record video but it is said that sony a7s series for it. And if you have chance to see and try them it will really perfect for you... But as a street photographer and I see you take a lot of nature I suggest sony a7r mark ii.It is really good camera.

Have a nice day my friend...

Always love hearing how people got into their passion... specially photography! It's been good getting to know you.

Thank you for comment and support my friend...have a nice day...
