Poem - On this broken road

in #poetry8 years ago

Tweak thwack gropes the greyed mind,
Like a plumb bob stretched to extremes,
You would, if you could, stop to stay,
In the confluence of past and present,
But no, you have crossed the chasm,
Stepped beyond the threshold,
of then and now, no turning back,
except to look at so much lost,
days and places and people gone.

What do you see? What haunts you?
So many empty seats that once weren’t,
Spaces they occupied, at the dinner table,
The crisp of coffee, how she would sip,
The golden when she touched,
At the closet, the aisle veil is stained,
Once of her who would stir and stain,
With love and care and compassion
Together you sowed for today.

How many kids? How many Disney’s?
Where was the road planned to lead?
Which fruit was planted to yield?
What paved the path? Did you arrive?
You lost your way along the road,
Here you found the pricks and thorns,
carefully trod, but you can’t be too careful,
There you met hedges to climb over,
But lost the energy to take the jump.

It is easier to fall than to fly,
easier to stray than to stretch,
Feet soles burned, ankles flamed like coal,
deep creases on your palms are evidence,
The furrowed face is a map, drawn at youth,
In days of ambitions, when you ran the show,
Now shown to remind, but also to teach others,
That they may know, and tread carefully,
On this broken road.

Explanation
We all grow up with plans/ Our youth is full of energy and ideas.
About what we want, whom we want and how we want.
Life however often comes to have its ways, and we can on reminisce of days of old,
Of shattered dreams, failed plans, wrong choices and even regrets.
The truth is that sometimes your best isn't enough, and that is because,
we are only agents of time, on this broken road.

Good writting. My favourite line is we are only agents of time,on this broken road. @mirrors

Thanks @samiulex for reading....on that favorite line...i think i share your sentiment! I love that too, and intentionally included it in the explanation to spice it up to. Thanks for reading. Much obliged.

Nice collection and attractive too.. good effort @mirrors

The pleasure is mine, @hamzayousaf. Thanks for reading.

Quite inspiring. In life, there's no going back. We only look ahead for a better tomorrow and look back to see how far we've gone.

I couldn't agree more. The past can have so many what-could-have-beens, sometimes we just have to close our eyes and take the forward step.

Yea, you are right.

Thanks @maxijgccomm for reading.

For us, it is true about the"What do you see?" but it has never been "What haunts you?" rather "What can it be?" Agents of "unbroken roads," for us everything is but needed steps and stairs, and improving upon mistakes has taken the form of mirroring an entire profession... (Creatives cannot resist reflections, can we?) Life has its own ways, and the weak in their spirit are the stones on the path to happiness, but without stones to drain the moist and to retain the Earth in its Place and Space, we'd all finish into the ocean of Time, where the 4th Redundancy of the 4D, which some call the Higher Creation, would linger endlessly to satisfy "fishy" needs... Then, by the laws of physics we all fall, never fly, and understanding that the stones have their reciprocal needs and ways to happiness frees us from attachment and further loss of time, energy, and inertia... How would it be your "On This Unbroken Road Poem"? ∜mp

Awesome poem will be waiting to see more quality content from you.

Thanks for reading.

You feeling like a bird,, but you just said that, its easy to fall than fly.....i love it

Hhahh....Thanks @princluv. I am glad you found it a good read.

Hello, blessings for you, Broken road, congratulations, I like your explanation of what you wanted to convey. God bless you more.

Thanks for reading. Come around always!

Broken dreams are the ones that come true reality because we tried to fly and fell from the sky. The fruit that we yield grows from the crevices of the broken road because life grows unpaved. Time is what is needed to develop the picture we see through a pinhole and our perfectionist is angry because life keeps moving and getting in our way. Thank you for capturing my attention and inspiring me to write this response :)

And such an inspired response it is...a poem of its own! Thanks @poodai
