1 week since Dymaxion @BURST - bulk answers

in #crypto6 years ago

This bulk answers and explanations since The Dymaxion was published by the PoC Consortium.

Is the anonymity solution set in stone? Some would argue having optional privacy, and competing implementations weakens the anonymity.

Anonymity is optional on-tangle. When enabled it is strong (ring signatures) and very strong (zkSNARKS). Keeping anonymity while entering and exiting an anonymous tangle is addressed by on-chain mixers and/or anonymous ACTTs - as the white paper explains.

For most businesses, anonymity will not be an option, 1st active Dymaxion code will also enable just ordinary non-anonymous transactions. We do, however, believe that a global transaction system should be agnostic of its use cases and if a certain group decides to ramp up anonymous communication/transaction channels, it is not for the currency to decide if this is legal or not.

"Legal" is a very elastic term, depending on where you are and the point in time. What can be perfectly legal in the US, may be illegal in Iran and vice versa. A truly global currency must provide protection for its users independent of any local constraints.

Is it worth my while to move BURST from Bittrex to a non-exchange wallet in order to signal?

Answered many times. No, you do not need to worry about your on-exchange funds. No fork will happen if the big exchanges (Polo and Bittrex) aren't on-board. With over 60% now signalling and 85% target, they will be on board.

Can we play with these prototypes any time soon?

No, because we cannot have everyone hogging the ~200 nodes with node discovery and latency/throughput benchmarks. What everyone will be able to do will be playing around with the real thing on TestNet before the fork - of course. See published roadmap for a rough estimate when this will be.

Will Nonces have to be redone to apply the changes on Dymaxion?

No. As already explained numerous times, there is no need to replot with PoC2/Dymaxion. When PoC2 comes into full effect, miners will be able to interpret PoC(1) plots on-the-fly (although at 50% of the read speed - but as this applies to everyone, the mining scales are kept in balance).

There will be optimizers transforming PoC1 -> PoC2 plots (to get rid of the 50% read speed). These optimizers are only IO-heavy, no need for CPU/GPU processing capacity.

How do we know this is not just talk? It's easy to just write a document and share it through various social media with absolutely no real work to back it up.

Revisiting this question. a) The PoCC has a short, but - we believe - impressive record of achieving things. We are not aware of any evidence where there was only talk and no delivery. b) Yes, it is easy to write a document as e.g. the "waves white paper". Writing The Burst Dymaxion was anything but easy.

Why run Tangle on top of BlockChain when you could just switch entirely to Tangle?

The Burst blockchain will always be there. It makes many things easier and some - we believe - possible at all, where other DAG-only currencies struggle.

The stronzo bestiale reference/joke and fake authors/aliases makes this smell fishy. Can you please share the real names behind the project?

No. We also recommend everyone feeling this way to not invest in Burst.

Considering that there is no proof of concept, simply proof of integration at this point.

We recommend everyone to internalize this statement.
