Ignorance is Bliss

About a month ago we had a young grey cat show up on our deck sleeping under my grill. He seemed tame and didn't run away when we approached. It didn't take long to find out that he is probably the most friendly cat I've ever seen. He came right up purring and rubbed on our legs arching his back and flicking his tail. Where did he come from? Neither my wife or I had any idea why he just showed up, he just did. The first day he was around we gave him some water and a little dog food, and those that know about stray cats know that once you feed them they will keep coming back and that was the case with this fellow. He has been sticking around our house since day one and we have been taking care of him. I believe he was someones house pet and ran away but there is no way of knowing for sure. We cleaned him up with a bath and removed a few ticks and he was as good as... well, as good as a clean cat!

During the day he can either be found lounging around the yard, deck or sitting all cuddled up on my wife's lap while she drinks her morning coffee or is eating lunch outside. He is a fun cat to have, almost too cuddly though, you can hold him upside down or any which way and he couldn't care less, he just likes to be rubbed down. I named him Gandalf...as in Gandalf the grey. Amanda doesn't really care for that name but it's just a cat anyway, they don't respond to their names often. He will follow you anywhere you walk, into the woods, up in the barn, even down the road. Sometimes he will venture off on his own somewhere and we won't see him most of the day and I think I found where he sneaks off to...

The other day I found him lounging in one of our Box Elder trees on some boards the previous owner's son nailed up in the tree (makeshift tree house?). He was just napping up their like cats do, not a care in the world. As long as he gets his food and water he is content and happy with life. What is stopping the rest of us from being that way? This is just a story about our new cat, nothing too serious but I think we can take a lesson from this guy. Sometimes no matter what is going on in your life it is beneficial to just sit in a tree and nap!
