Chicks Are Getting Ugly!

I hope you didn't click this post thinking I meant my wife! She's the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. We've been making it a habit to physically handle our 8 new chicks every day so that they are friendly to us when they get older and don't have any issues with us handling them. We've had them for a few weeks now and they are noticeably different so I thought I'd share a good picture or 2 of each breed and their development.

Meet The Chicks

This gal is one of the Ameraucanas which are the smallest 2 that we have. You can see her wings are mostly feathered and her neck fuzz is giving way to feathers slightly. She is not very shy but not as spunky as the other Ameraucana. No name for this one yet.

Ameraucana #2

This is the most energetic girl we have and also the smallest. Her hobbies include, eating worms before others get to them, running around bouncing into other chicks. Yesterday she even flew a couple feet and ran into the food container head first! She is not timid at all and will hop right up on you and check you out. If you let her she will climb up your arm onto your shoulders for a look around. No name for her yet but it will probably be a fun one. By the way I didn't get any good pictures because she moves around too fast even while stuck perching on my hand.

Dominique 1 of 2 "Granny"

She's the boss. The biggest of the 8 so far and she knows it. I wouldn't say she's mean yet but she definitely throws her weight for example, if another chick is sitting on my wife's hand Granny will fly ontop of the chick to shoo it away so she can sit there. She doesn't run around as much as some of the others and is quite content roosting on your arm the entire time you're playing with the chickens. I think she will be a good mother hen.

(The Brown Ones)

The brown ones which breed name escapes me at the moment are the most timid, and they keep to themselves. They really don't like to be held yet and will avoid your swooping hand at all cost until you have a good grasp on them. They will flap their wings for a while until you hold them down with the other hand and will eventually settle. I just think their personality is more loner type so they may never get super used to us.

These two are the in between type chicks. They don't mind being held but they don't really come to us out of curiosity either. They look similar to the Dominique's still except they have less white stripes on their wings. There are pretty chill and kind of just do whatever the other chicks do. If a chick goes to get food these will follow it there. if one snoops around us they will come too. I think they will be good following chicks but not overly brave or curious.

Thank you for viewing my post, I'll leave you with an Ameraucana falling asleep in Amanda's hands. As always I'll be making updates with the chicks and other things going on around our homestead. Have a great day!

So cute!! I don't think they're ugly at all

kinda cute I suppose but they are like teenagers between being a cute baby and a nice looking hen.

AWWW! They are so cute! I love that you are learning each personality so well. upvoted and resteemed.

Thank you for voting, commenting, and resteeming! They are all different and I didn't expect that because I didn't grow up with chickens. It will be fun to see if they keep the personalities once they are adults. :)

Oh yes! Chickens really do have different personalities!

Oh man these girls are so cute! I can't wait to raise chicks of our own one day. Sweeties!

they are certainly entertaining plus they will supply us with food! Thank you for commenting.

Its amazing how fast they grow out of fuzzy cute

less than 2 weeks! I'm looking forward to full grown hens though.

They do go through a phase of "not so cute"ed-ness LOL

as @papa-pepper would say, here's proof :)

Hahah just wait until about 4 weeks old. Hahah THEN they're ugly! They grow so fast!
