Is this as bad as it looks?
Hello people!
A few days back I decide to follow @stellabelle's example, and started visiting the introduceyourself tag. The plan was to find the best possible introductions from the newcomers, (at least in my opinion) follow them all (as I did) and track their course over the next few weeks.
As I've repeatedly said before, helping a new account grow, at least at the very beginning, might well be the factor that will determine whether this account will keep pushing and producing for Steemit's ecosystems or.....if he will quit since nobody ever bothered to engage with him / upvote their efforts / advise him on a few things he might not be familiar with and so on....
But as it turns out and since HF20 is already here, Steemit will push newcomers (and not only) to the exit...What do I mean by that? Just check the screenshots below.
This is an account I found just a few minutes back who had submitted his introduction post earlier today. So out of curiosity, and since steemd.com is now open 24/7 until we all understand how mana / Rc works, I used their names on steemd and these are the results....
Is there anything weird on that screenshot? Well, in case you haven't noticed yet, there is a box with info at the bottom of the page which informs us on what our account is "capable of" at the current RC and at full RC.
So this specific guy can drop 0 comments at the moment and only 2 when his RC is at 100%
He can also vote 2 times and 9 at 100% and make 3 transfers / power ups, and 11 at 100%
Here is another one...
And another one...
Seems like there is nothing we can do about these accounts unless they power up...meaning...to buy steem.
And I keep asking myself?
How the fuck is this happening?
We keep saying that engagement is the number 1 factor if you want to be noticed around here right? So how are these people supposed to say: 'Hey look at me,I am here and I am trying, if they can't even comment?'
Seems like every single action is really costly at the moment...and commenting is the most expensive of them all...
I wonder how @curie's engagement league will work now...maybe @abh12345 can answer that. But there are so many different projects which are built on users engagement such as @steem-ua
So for now the more SP someone possess the better...but is that what we really want? Is this the way to promote Steemit / steem if new users cannot even interact with the platform?
So @stellabelle now you know why all the small accounts are not around....
I really wish that things aren't as they look and that I am mistaken about the whole thing. So please if that is the case someone correct me plz as I don't want to spread rumors...
PS. Those of you who consider to upvote or comment at this post and have less than 100SP plz go check your account at steemd.com first.
Thanks for your time!
Stay awesome!
Cheers @mindtrap
You've nailed it.
They can only post about 2 comments a day (at least I hope it's that and not 2 comments a week).
Say someone kindly upvotes both their comments for 2 cents (not a given as most people don't bother upvoting comments). After about a week they might earn 75% of 28 cents.
If they don't get upvoted they'll be waiting aeons to earn anything and will migrate to Golos, or Trybe and earn there instead.
Growth on this platform will cease, and if the investors notice, they'll pull their money out.
Let's just hope things will get better over the next few hours
Voting in small percentages until I figure out how all this is going to work @mindtrap Thanks for the info, that is really new stuff since I didn't see it until you mentioned it.
No worries about the upvote @streetstyle
I feel you and unless I reach 80%+ I ain't gonna vote too. Just small votes until blockchain heals the wounds...
Yeah to be honest I accidentally found it too and it looks really ugly...a part of me wishes I am wrong though and things aren't as they look. We'll see...
Would love to hear what @timcliff has to say about this as he is a current top 20 witness.
This is a serious problem and I can't understand why the top 20 agreed to this hardfork!
@kabir88
I would like to hear @timcliff's state on this too @kabir88
I am not an expert, but I think some things should clear up
No point judging it yet, the system is still calculating
History will tell....
We all hope that this mess will be fixed
Well it looks like the delegation boots will need to be donned over the next month. Keep a look out for worth new accounts that need a kick-start.
I 'll keep doing that no matter what
First off sorry about the lack of vote. I have 15 comments left according to steemd. I can report from the bottom of the pond because I am very fortunate to have some delegated sp.
This is absolutely what is happening right now. I am very active with @pifc and also Ashers Engagement league. So I interact with mostly smaller accounts. Today some people would be inaccessible if not for discord.
A friend @macoolette scored in the top of Ashers list last week. Today she can not comment at all.
We are watching and hoping it will level out for the little guys.
A better onboarding system seems to be of little use if the new member can not function once here. If retention was bad before I do not see how it is going to get any better with constraints on engagement.
I am trying to be positive. Glad to see some body noticed at least.
On behalf of all the small fish who are silenced thanks for that.
No need to worry about the lack of vote.
Everyone needs to do their part. I just try to be helpful and make people see the bright side of things.
Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts
I don’t understand how any of it works (and haven’t spent the time to try understanding it yet). I couldn’t do anything at first and then after a day or so I’m not able to interact. Seemingly as usual but much more sparingly when it comes to voting. I do have a decent amount of SP so based on your post that would help me be able to interact as I am. I’m usually not so optimistic but I’m willing to believe that if this new hardfork doesn’t get good feedback or has negative results that something will be done to correct it.
Again I’m fairly new here and I don’t follow the technical aspects of how things actually work behind the scenes as much as I should.

You won't have any problems @hrissm
But those with >100SP they certainly have big issues at the moment. Hopefully they will implement a new patch the next few hours that will make things better
I was reading @steemitblog‘s post earlier about a patch, but I may not have finished it or didn’t digest all the details of the patch. Hopefully it fixes things for those with less than a buck of SP

Seems like we might have to start with "micro-delegations" for beginners. And it might even motivate newcomers more when these 15 SP don't come from a faceless entity but from another user...
What a great idea this is!
