STEEMCHURCH: Transformed for good works
The Bible says that whoever walks in Christ must serve others with acts of love.
When we speak of works of faith, works of love, acts of kindness, there are 2 passages that call me powerfully. The first one, the one who says that women should be concerned not with dressing in expensive clothes or gold, but with good works. And the second one, the one who says: I know your works, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead. A believer can pretend that he is alive, but in truth he is dead. James says that the faith of someone without works is a dead faith. Therefore, when God reviews the works, God determines, he says he is a Christian, but he is not.
We should not confuse, the term good works does not refer only to reading the Bible, praying, fasting or attending church, it also has to do with time, talents, money.
When the scripture says that the believer must do good deeds, he is not talking about earning salvation. He says that the believer must show good works to show that faith in Christ. Faith goes first, and works confirm that faith.
The will of God is for the believer to live doing good works.
Underline in your Bible the words: make, created for good works, we walked.
There are two important things in this part, the first thing is that there is no argument, you and I were created by God to do good works. The second thing is that those good works must be the lifestyle of the believer. A daily walk, continuous. It must be the natural thing.
Paul understood the importance of good works as the fruit of faith in Christ. Throughout the letter to his friend and disciple Titus, he gives some warnings:
- Introduce yourself as an example of good works
- The church is a town dedicated to doing good
- Those who believe in God should seek to engage in good works
- That the church learn to do good in cases of need.
Paul's urgency is evident for Tito to understand that doing good deeds should be a way of life and not sporadic events. I am struck by the phrase learn to do good deeds, that is, perhaps we should unlearn to do not do it. The church throughout time has trained its disciples with a certain distance to the social reality that the country lives. Being calm to have the salvation of the soul.
Good works should glorify God and not man
It is interesting that the center is not the believer, nor the works, it is God. It is he who created us, it is he who saved us and it is he who prepared the good works beforehand so that we could walk in them.
The problem is that when the believer does good works because of his faith, he can get to glory in him and not give the glory to God.
Matthew 5:16 says: Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your works and glorify God.
Dear brother, how important it is to do good deeds and not to boast oneself. In another passage Jesus says: If you give alms to the poor, let not your left hand know what your right hand does, because there are some who seek reward.
Illustration: I remember that once in Tegucigalpa Honduras, before returning to El Salvador, a person came to me and secretly told me: Brother, God has put in my heart to give you this offering. During the trip, someone who came there, he said, look I am amazed with the attitude of so-and-so to give him an offering. In the talk on that same trip I realized that the offering was not something secret, everyone knew and everyone spoke of the kindness of that person.
Dear brother, if God gives you the opportunity to do a good deed, do not announce it, stay quiet.
A teacher said, remember that God does not share his glory with anyone. Be careful, when people begin to mention more your name, to ask that your picture comes out in the Bibles or in the hymnals, when you begin to mention words like: the ministries that we have, the buses we have, the programs we have, then You must sit down and remember the story of David and the census.
1 Chronicles 21 tells the lesson that David had to learn for wanting to take away the glory of God.
Do a good work by refusing to give
On many occasions there are charlatan people who take advantage of the good will of the people. He will do a good deed by refusing to give and exhorting him.
See in good works a miracle of God
I have realized that the word miracle has filled it with a mysticism. We pray that a miracle will happen: That God will provide work for someone who does not have a job, there are people who can use it. We pray for a miracle to happen and the little brothers can afford to pay for the children's school, and we do not realize that we can also pray to deliver an offering.
Do not love good works and despise your neighbor (parable of the Good Samaritan)
Many times we become lovers of opportunities to do good works, but we do not pay attention to the person who needs the good work.
Doing good works does not depend on doctrinal depth
There are many like the scribe who knew the law, but he forgot good works.
Try to do good works in secret, God is not unjust to forget.
When someone does a good deed, do not judge, only God knows the intention (Mark 14: 6)
Many people will not understand why you love God and his works. Just focus on God.
