STEEMCHURCH: Destroyed the Fundamentals
1 Samuel 18.7 | John 3.16 | 2 Corinthians 5.8 | Hebrews 13.5 | 1 John 1.9; 5.14, 15
The Word of God is an anchor for the life of the believer.
In its pages we find consolation, strength and direction for each situation of our life. But if we choose to live without the Bible, we will not have the assurance given by God's promises to face the difficulties. This is one of the most difficult times we have faced in our country.
We have lost the unity, stability, strength and love we once had. And now our nation suffers as a result of insecurity, anxiety and distrust. That is why we must rest in the Word of God, because we must go to his presence and ask him to give us the wisdom, courage and obedience to do what is to his liking.
David knew very well what it meant to go through difficulties, and it was through them that he learned to trust in the Lord.
In confronting Goliath, he did not trust in his own strength, but in the faithfulness of God. He did the same when he was persecuted by Saul, who wanted to kill him. That's why he had to flee and hide from the king. And in Psalm 11 we are shown what David felt in his heart as his world collapsed. The main question he asked was found in verse 3.
"If the foundations are destroyed, what is the righteous to do?"
When everything collapses around us, we must remember that the Word of God is the foundation of our life. No matter what we face, the Holy Scriptures assure us that we are children of God, and He has promised to sustain us at all times. That does not mean that we will not suffer pain or disappointment, but that the Lord will be with us with every step we take.
His Word is the compass that guides us in the midst of difficulties and problems: As long as we follow his instructions, we can face any situation.
David compares the foundation of a nation with that of a building:
For a house to remain standing it must have been built on a firm foundation. Otherwise, it will collapse before any tremor. In the same way, that nation that does not have a firm foundation will not remain.
A solid foundation is to have law, order, justice, truth, morality, decency, integrity, impartiality and trust. When these aspects are abandoned, the foundation begins to crumble and the nation becomes vulnerable.
FOUNDATIONS ARE DESTROYED?
Put your gaze on God. Like David, we can choose to say: "I have trusted in the Lord" (v. 1). That means that we have placed our trust in the Lord and that we are attentive to his voice. He alone has given us the absolute truth in His Word. And by placing our trust in what he tells us, we will receive the direction and support we need.
Do not run. David declares to us: "How do you say to my soul, that I escape to the mountain like a bird?" (V. 1). Instead of trying to escape difficulties, we must go to God. He is Almighty and knows each one of our needs. There is no refuge stronger and safer than our Lord. He loves us and wants us to remain firm and faithful in the midst of suffering, loss and pain, while we depend on his promises.
The foundation of our physical world may collapse and we may lose the material possessions that we have today, but even in the midst of that situation, our heavenly Father can sustain us.
HOW DOES GOD RESPOND WHEN WE GO TO HIM?
He puts us under his divine protection. If we have a close relationship with the Lord and walk in obedience to His Word, He will place limits on the trials and sufferings we face. That does not mean that it will remove the pain or the problem, but that it will keep us while we suffer such difficulties. And even if we lose our lives, he promises us that we will go immediately in his presence (2 Co 5.8).
Available. "Jehovah is in his holy temple; Jehovah has his throne in heaven "(Ps 11.4). Nothing is out of their control and they are willing to listen to our requests if we come before Him in prayer.
Whatever our need, we have the promises that he has given us in his Word.
Observe "His eyes see, his eyelids examine the children of men. Jehovah tests the righteous. " God has a divine perspective that allows him to see every detail of our life, so he uses every test to strengthen our faith. We have no reason to feel fear, because we are safe in our relationship with God. His Word tells us that God abhors violence and promises to punish the wicked.
We must trust in the Lord. Regardless of the circumstance we face, we must trust in God: It may seem that he is inactive, but it is not so. If the situation gets worse, it does not mean that the Lord has forgotten us. He rejoices to intervene and show his strength and fidelity to his children. Therefore, instead of fleeing, we must learn to wait on the Lord and find his direction.
We must ask God to purify us: When everything shudders around us, we must examine our life and ask the Lord to show us if we have sinned. Then, we must confess them and repent. But if we do not deal with our disobedience, they will come to be a hindrance to our prayers. Only after being purified can we be used by God according to his purpose.
We must be willing to exhort others: Those who do not know Christ are terrified when their world is shaken by difficulties. They seek a way to protect themselves, but we can exhort them to look to Christ, who is the only source of salvation. As believers, we have the responsibility to share the teachings of the Word of God.
We must pray for a revival: The difficult times we face are greater than our personal affairs, for our entire nation is in trouble. The solution is not to vote for a new president, but to cry out to God to send a revival.
