Sunday Art Trip

in #art8 years ago (edited)

I went to Helsinki last Sunday to see a couple of exhibitions. First stop was the Yayoi Kusama exhibition in HAM (Helsinki Art Museum).

Yayoi Kusama: In infinity

What can I say, this was truly a spectacle. As you can see from some of the images the museum was crowded with people. The lines were huge and have to regrettably say that I missed a couple of the works. I don't really enjoy taking pictures at museums as I would like to just focus on the art(and not look like a silly tourist), but of course I had to take some to post here.
I'm not much of a reviewer so this is just a very light look.

The fIrst stop was the Obliteration Room. Visitors got to put colored stickers on to the room and objects during the exhibition, making them disappear.

What i got from her works was this wonderful feeling of weirdness and well, wonder.

Then there were the pumpkings. I can understand being captivated by some object or pattern. These days it can be seen as pretentious but I did not get that sense all here.

Her latest work was this installation. There was a dark room with a little path between pools of water and these bright spheres that would change color. Surreal and calming. It was a wonderful experience. The exhibition is open till 22.1. I Highly recommend to experience this in person.

Second location was exhibition by Anna Leppä at Galleria Huuto, jätkäsaari.

Anna Leppä: Sukupolvi Ö

(Generation Ö, Ö being the last letter of Finnish alphabet)

I did not take too many pictures there(I was busy chatting with the artist) and the ones I took don't really do justice to her works. Continuing on the strange theme here as we arrive at the barren dystopic landscapes, where the people of the future dwell. It wasn't as anguishing as I thought before but rather calm and strangely beautiful, even optimistic in a weird way, but then again we might have a lot to answer for. The exhibition is also open till 22.1.2017, go see it if you are around Helsinki.

There were few items from ancient Rome as well, like this bust of Emperor

Last show was the Renaissance.now in the National Museum bringing some of the renaissance masterpieces first time to Finland.
There were few works from Raphael among others. Have to say that, the masses of people and the long day was already getting to me, so I did not enjoy the experience as much as I had hoped. Note to self: try not to visit a museum on a Sunday. Did not get that many pictures but a lot of these works are available online anyway. It was still great to see all of this stuff.

Some items from ancient Rome were included, which was quite striking.

Had to borrow this from the museum press material,
The Madonna of the Pinks, Raphael

That was quite a lot for a day, but rewarding as always.

I remember going to see the work of Yayoi Kusama at The Serpentine, London, in 2000. A wonderful experience.

ah, I have to make the trip to London some day, so much to see.
