Palm Springs - Mount San Jacinto
A day trip from Palm Springs took us out into the desert. The engineer in me was fascinated by the windmills, but that wasn't our destination. Our destination was in the background, near the top. A place that would take us away from the 90+ temperatures and the sparse vegetation on the desert floor, the top of Mount San Jacinto.
 | Fortunately we wouldn't be climbing but riding a tram. We would be taking the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway up to the top. The top of Mount San Jacinto is at an elevation of 10,834 feet, almost 8000 feet above the desert floor. |
| The ride up was amazing with the views gradually opening up as you go higher. Other than climbing, there is no other way up. Construction of the tramway required men and material to be transported up with helicopters. |  |
 | At the top, you're greeted by temperatures in the 50's and a wonderful forest environment. Hardly what I was expecting. |
| Other than some walking paths the forest had hardly been touched. The cool dry air fit perfectly with the rugged landscape of boulders and pines. |  |
 | We wandered around for several hours enjoying the different views of the forest and the desert below. Here is Palm Springs from the top of Mount San Jacinto. This is the Palm Springs I remember the most. |
