Costco Mexcio Membership

in #travel5 years ago

I'm often asked why I want to spend part of my retirement in Mexico. The answer is really simple, it cost less to live in Mexico. Most things, including property tax and utilities, are less expensive but it goes beyond the necessities of life. There is a Costco within a 30 minute drive of Chelem. After a phone call with Costco, we found out a Costco membership from Mexico would be honored in the U.S. but a membership from the U.S. may not be honored in Mexico. So it made sense to get a Costco Mexico membership.

Costco in Mexico has the same basic layout as a store here in the U.S., so if you're a Costco member in the U.S. shopping will be almost the same. There's still a large selection of items from household good, tools, car service, and food. The main difference, as you can imagine, is there will be some differences in products available and brand names.

One of the big advantages of the Costco Mexico membership is the cost of the membership. A Costco membership here in the U.S. is $60, while in Mexico the cost is 450 pesos. With the exchange rate currently around 19 to 20 pesos to the dollar, the Mexico membership is less than $25. It's a great deal.

So for less than half the cost of a membership here in the states, my Mexico membership will give me a taste of home when I am there. By the way, that taste of home includes those great hotdogs that can be found at the front of Costco stores.
