The Knowledge Test

I recently sat a knowledge test as part of the process of gaining a private hire taxi licence from the council.

I found out today that I didn't pass the test, but I knew going in that I was unprepared, the test is tough though and it requires me to learn 105 locations in my area, mainly pubs, clubs and popular places as well as health and safety regulations and everything else to do with the job.

At £25 a test it's not cheap either.

So I will be studying all the locations and roads in my local towns every day for the next two weeks ready for the next test, which I can confidently say I'll pass, but you never know with these things.

With the advent of satellite navigation, you'd have thought these location tests would be pointless, I guess you could argue it's knowledge you'd need in case your phone dies or your sat-nav screws up.

The council must be making a small fortune.
