Classic 1- 4 Boxing Combo w MMA Twist at UFC Gym

A jab often draws out an opponent's jab, setting up a perfect opportunity to slip inside the counter and attack the body with a right hook. At a distance, wearing MMA gloves, it helps to invert your fist at the end of the punch - thumb pointing to ground - so you hit with knuckles. Otherwise you'll land with the tips of your closed fingers. This is a great range for a Diaz-style, open-hand slap for this same reason, but I recommend knuckles for these rib-roasters. Step out with lead foot as you slip inside to shift your weight into the punch. When practicing on the heavy bag I always keep my elbow slightly bent to avoid hyper-extending.

Thanks for the video. Here's a random discussion question that I need an opinion on. I might get some fun answers. I've had Karate instructors teach when throwing a punch to make contact with the index and middle knuckle for point of impact. It's where you are pointing with the index knuckle. I'd say it's hard to keep track of what part of the hand makes contact with the point of impact. Do you find that there is a specific part of the hand to use when making contact with an opponent?

I've seen that in books, but agree that in actual sparring or fighting just keeping from accidentally smashing my own fingers is about all I can keep track of 😎 That said focusing your power into one small point as much as possible is legit. This is the argument for accuracy> power

You got that right. I'll find myself with a wrist sprain if I don't focus on my punches. I tape my fingers as it is for my jiu jitsu training. Any good advice on where to find other good material for improvements on boxing/stand up? My striking can use work.

Haha! It's true though :) Here on #Steemit I follow @martiallee - he's posted a number of tips and workouts for hitting the heavy bag. I also like Shane Fazen's Fight Tips. He has tons of good advice for beginners and enthusiasts. Here's a good video of his explaining some of these same tips about throwing hooks:
